Seriously, what do you think are the long term prospects for a species that routinely engages in such pointless atavistic savagery against the living world – and one another?

For next #wormwednesday here is Simplicomorpha gigantorhabditis from the tidal beaches of Texel. Here at @Naturalis_Sci looking for #meiofauna with @UllAmartinez @inir725 @EleniChri_ @FrancescaLeasi and colleagues. Thanks to @JNMScience for organising.
For this #wormwednesday evening we have Prorhynchus, a freshwater flatworm that uses its penis stylet (here near the front) as a harpoon to catch prey. The stylet injects poison into the prey. The mouth and stylet share opening - further back the pharynx can be seen.

Anaperus tvaerminnensis is a voracious predator feeding on various small Invertebrates including other Acoela, as can be seen in this photo. The statocyst of the prey is still visible. #WormWednesday – at Heligoland, Germany
