My point is 50% is not a NUMBER, it is a percent. You can only increase or decrease the number, not "walk away". Imagine 100 people voted before you: Blue has 47, needs 3 more to win. Your choices are 1) Blue has 48, needs 2.5 more to win 2) Blue has 47, needs 3.5 more to win
I keep finding it surprising that people do not understand that choosing red has a side effect: it increases the number of people that must choose blue.

An evil scenario-setter has turned half of people into hostages, and the other half into poll-takers. You're a poll taker. You must choose: (1) Personally stab a hostage to death with a sword. (2) Coin flip. 50% chance the scenario-setter kills you. (The hostage goes free.)
36%I choose to kill
64%I choose coin flip to die

My problem with framings like "if enough people jump into the blender it will break" is they're an intuition pump for body weight, rather than fraction of respondents, which is incorrect. To match "50%", standing outside has to actively make the problem worse.

If you choose not to jump into the blender, it requires 0.5 more people to stop. You can only power the blender or stop it. You can't "do nothing".

Easter prayers from a non-Christian: May you love so stubbornly, through such adversity, that you prove love's timeless power. May you recognize you have *already* been loved so stubbornly. By the limitless love in the background of awareness. And by real, physical people.

continuing to remark on the current thing, FROM EXPERIENCE I say: go through your weird beauty maxing phase (I called mine “hotness project”). try stuff that is more revealing, feminine, or performative … and then back off, chill out, throw it all out, and find yourself again

eg: I got my eyebrows tinted and threaded, which changed my appearance so drastically that long-time acquaintances DID NOT RECOGNIZE ME at parties pendulum swing: I now understand which eyebrow grooming makes me look a bit more “put together” and also completely exactly myself

on the current dating/apprarance discourse, I want to offer that I grew out my undercut and dressed more feminine, and now I’m seeing a guy who keeps saying “I think it’s really hot and cool that you used to have an undercut”

It's not that language models don’t know the factual answer (they sometimes do), but more that they don't instantly figure out what "improv game" you’re trying to play. Like young children in developmental psychology experiments, they don't just literally answer when asked
Replying to @JanelleCShane
If I give it some examples of correct animal facts and then ask it about horse eyes, it will follow my lead and answer with single-word responses. Here are a few sequential unedited responses from the OpenAI API. Facts are mine up till whale, rest is its completion.

I think of GPT-3 as an improv player, picking up from context what sort of role it's "supposed to" be playing in the improv game. When I context-force GPT-3 to speak on this as "Taylor" who is described as very wise and knowledgeable, GPT-3 plays "Taylor" differently each run

This is one of my main objections to "Just do something. Pick something. It doesn't matter what it is. Just start anywhere. Anything is better than nothing."
Most people don't realize they can systematically climb skill trees. If you know, you know. It is such a massive edge.

what makes a slack post a "memo" or "not a memo"?

imo the ideal norm is straightforward, and I’m surprised it’s not universal: it’s ok to pursue romantic interest with someone you met in a professional context (office, conference, etc) (who’s not in your reporting tree) - but you have to first move into a SOCIAL context
EAG should do better and be a more pro-love space. Are you a 'community' or not?

My guess is it's all of (1) reading comprehension, (2) the diagram being exceedingly abstract (3) comfort with completing stupid math requests from authority I can imagine skimming, seeing a dumb question from a geometry syllabus I don't respect, doing it, moving on with life

To get it right, you have to internalize that there's a coherent hypothetical in the question; treat the author as a coherent person, asking questions worth engaging with, with internal logic that isn't stupid. To bother mapping this very rectilinear shape to a "real bottle".

This isn't a real bottle. This looks like a page out of a shitty math textbook. The drawing is shitty. The question feels like a dumb word problem. This is measuring what 40% of college women do with their hearts and minds when asked to engage with shitty math textbooks.
