Forests and peatlands are at the heart of Riau’s environmental and economic future—supporting livelihoods, strengthening communities and helping Indonesia meet its climate goals. 🌳
Today’s event, led by @kemenhut_ri and the Riau Provincial Government, brings together government, the UK, @UN, and development partners to take GREEN for Riau from a jurisdictional approach towards a high-integrity forest carbon market—strengthening the technical and institutional foundations, safeguards and governance needed along the way. #GREEN4Riau @UNinIndonesia

A critical next step for #GREENforRiau, happening today in Pekanbaru: bringing potential carbon buyers to the table to better understand market demand, expectations and what is needed to bring high-integrity forest carbon credits to market.
The roundtable connects Riau’s jurisdictional approach with the market, while keeping environmental integrity, transparency and benefits for local communities at the centre.

Zoom out to see clear.
Forests are climate allies, home to most of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity, sources of livelihoods and ancestral territories.
Act now to protect forests and the people who depend on them.
Don’t let deforestation change the picture.

Billions are spent protecting nature; yet trillions still fund its degradation.
This imbalance is driving climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
But it can be reversed.
