YOUNG TYSON DEMOLISHES BERBICK TO CLAIM FIRST WORLD TITLE Mike Tyson stormed forward from the opening bell against Trevor Berbick in Las Vegas. The twenty-year-old challenger landed heavy combinations that immediately put the champion on the defensive. All three judges scored the opening round for Tyson as he controlled the action completely. Early in round two a left hook dropped Berbick who rose but looked unsteady. Tyson pressed the attack relentlessly until another crushing left hook sent Berbick crashing again. Referee Mills Lane watched as Berbick staggered wildly and fell repeatedly while trying to stand. Lane stopped the fight at 2:35 of the second round awarding Tyson the TKO and WBC heavyweight crown as the youngest champion ever.
