Governments around the works want to be able to get trials started within weeks - something the team behind PANORAMIC were able to do."

ALT This study identified critical elements of how an Artificial Intelligence (AI) social determinants of health tool can be designed using a collaborative design strategy with input from primary care team members. Fifteen participants of the health team participated across 4 workshops. Participants reported that currently, most patient information was not available or difficult to find in their EHR. Participants recommended starting with 1-2 social determinants (such as income and housing) and emphasized the need for adequate resources, staff, and training materials. Many challenges were reported, including how to discuss the use of AI with patients and confirm their social needs identified by the AI tool.

ALT A purple gradient tile with text that reads, "Many patients in Ontario live too far from their family doctor, preventing timely access to care. More than 670,000 with a family doctor live over 51 km away." A location pin is shown with a distance between connecting it to another location pin icon.

ALT A quote from Dr. Archna Gupta, a family doctor and researcher with Upstream Lab at St. Michael's Hospital: It’s too far and it’s impacting how Ontarians receive care because they are not seeing their family doctor – or any family doctor – as often as patients who live closer. Our data shows that without a family doctor nearby, patients may need to rely on hospital emergency departments more frequently and do not get screened for cancer as often.
