Americans in the southeast die 10-20 years earlier than people in other parts of the country.
Shocking when you see it visualized like this.

A somewhat unknown ethnic group are the Isleños of Southeast Louisiana.
The late 1700s saw an influx of Canary Islanders move to what was then Spanish territory. Historically, many were sugarcane planters.
Today, a small % still identify as Spanish. Map by county below:

In 2011, a stretch of I-195 that ran right through the heart of Providence was demolished, freeing up 26-acres of Downtown adjacent land for new housing and an innovation district, reconnecting neighborhoods divided by the highways construction.

It was an honor to serve on the Birmingham Planning Commission! This city is making moves:
- Removing mandatory parking minimums
- Adopting a new urban neighborhoods zone to support walkability, small business, and missing middle housing
- Evaluating short term rental regulation

I enjoyed reading drafts of @DerekHyra's new book:
Slow and Sudden Violence: Why and When Uprisings Occur
Hyra puts the uprisings and the need for racial justice in the context of unfair urban policies—from housing to policing.
Buy the @ucpress book:

It's wonderful to have a university that strongly supports my social justice research! A big thank you goes out to the @AmericanU and @AU_SPA leadership and all the @MPC_AU students who greatly contributed to this work over the years!

French cities go straight from T4 urban villages to the T2 countryside. City and country are protected and enhanced. Both are beautiful.
American land use policy destroys the city and country.

AWESOME motion by @cd4losangeles @cd1losangeles and @BobBlumenfield to:
1. Make traffic signals prioritize pedestrians and cyclists
2. Implement Leading Pedestrian Intervals everywhere
3. Make signals “free running”
4. Consider implementing no right-turn-on-red

If North Arlington homeowners can sue the county over their homes being upzoned (which arguably *increases* property values & allows more flexibility), then can someone retroactively sue against 1980s/90s downzonings in a bunch of cities?
