We love talking anti-doping and clean sport with local students here in Colorado Springs!
USADA's Chief Science Officer, Dr. Matt Fedoruk, recently spoke to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Sport Management class about anti-doping and sport integrity. A big thank you to Dr. Spencer Harris for inviting us and to the students for their great questions!

Have you seen products or supplements lablelled with phrases like “research chemicals” or “for research purposes only”?
That should be a major red flag, as there are a lot of companies that use those lables to avoid scrutiny from the FDA while selling peptides, SARMs, or unapproved experimental drugs to consumers.
Learn more about research chemicals and non-approved substances here: na2.hubs.ly/H08fTk_0

As more and more prohibited substances become normalized due to illicit online sales, it can become easy to forget the risks.
The long-term effects of prohibited Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators, or SARMs, like Ostarine or LGD-4033, are still largely unknown, due to the fact that SARMs have not been approved for human use. Although the long-term effects of SARMs are still unknown, side effects may start with hair loss and acne. More serious health consequences have also been documented, including liver toxicity, as liver enzymes rise, and drops in good cholesterol, which can affect heart health. If this stress continues, SARMs have the potential to increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Make sure you understand the prohibited status and health risks around SARMs and other performance-enhancing drugs: na2.hubs.ly/H08d-lL0

The collaboration continues!
Team USADA has been busy on the road and at our home office meeting with more National Governing Bodies to discuss 2027 World Anti-Doping Code changes and preparations ahead of the LA 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Thank you to USA Track & Field, USA Swimming, and USA Golf/PGA Tour for their partnership in protecting clean athletes' rights to a level playing field.

Have you completed a USADA education tutorial or in-person education session? Have you visited the USADA website?
Then you probably know that supplements are risky! Post-market regulation means that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not evaluate the contents or effects of supplements before they are sold. Unfortunately, this has led to many products-even vitamins-that are contaminated with prohibited and potentially harmful ingredients.
That's why USADA created the High Risk List. The HRL is designed to help athletes and consumers identify supplements that are known to contain prohibited substances, as well as identify signs of risky supplements.

Wondering about peptides? What's prohibited for athletes? What is allowed? Listen in as Dr. Matt Fedoruk provides a quick rundown of what athletes need to know about peptides.
Spoiler alert: Experimental peptides like BPC-157 are PROHIBITED and it is unlikely that a TUE for BPC-157 would be approved because there are permitted alternatives available. Additionally, BPC-157 has not been extensively studied in humans, it is unknown if there is a safe dose, and it is unknown if there is any way to use this substance safely to treat any specific medical conditions.
