After many years of waiting (for me) my wife and myself went on Safari in Zimbabwe. The concession was located in the Zambezi valley and bordered Lake Kariba. Sorta the northwestern side of the country, towards Zambia. We had the time of our lives and are already trying to figure out how soon we can go back. I have quite a few photos, not just of what I was hunting for, but some of the many animals we also saw, the various terrain, our accommodations, etc. I’m going to start this thread with a few posts which include the animals I primarily went there to hunt (Cape Buffalo and Hippo for dangerous game) as well as some other scenic photos. If there is interest in more photos, I’ll post more. If y’all have questions feel free to ask, I’m no expert as this was my first time in Africa, let alone hunting in Africa but I’ll do my best to answer them. It’s hard to say that something that you’ve been looking forward to doing since I was a kid and finally got a chance to exceeded expectations but this did. The vistas were amazing to say the least. After some hard days hunting I was rewarded with a great “dugga boy”, as old bull Cape Buffalo are known. There is a picture of me and my wife, and then with our game scout, head tracker, and assistant tracker.

Very interesting news
A developer left a standard Bluetooth Low Energy tracker sitting on a wooden post. It was running on a coin cell, broadcasting a tiny 6-milliwatt pulse (+8 dBm) through a cheap copper PCB trace. Then they drove 13 kilometers (8 miles) down the road. You would assume Bluetooth has a ten-meter leash. I mean we build smart locks, car digital keys, and proximity badges around the quiet belief that Bluetooth dies at the front door. But radio waves do not understand room boundaries. They leave an antenna and expand across the horizon according to the inverse-square law, diluting into space. Follow that packet across the countryside. Leaving the tag at 2.44 GHz, the signal loses 122.5 decibels of power by the time it travels 13 kilometers through open air. It arrives on a distant hillside as a microscopic whisper at roughly -115 dBm, buried deep under the thermal hiss of background atmospheric noise. A standard smartphone sitting on that hill is completely deaf to it. The builder did not touch the transmitter. They left it completely stock and FCC-compliant. Instead, they solved the math on the receiving end. They hauled a 24 dBi parabolic grid antenna onto a mast and aimed its narrow eight-degree beam directly back at the distant tag. That dish acts like a massive radio funnel, capturing faint wavefronts across its metallic grid and concentrating them into a 24-decibel passive boost. Then they triggered Bluetooth 5 Coded PHY. Standard Bluetooth blasts bits at 1 megabit per second, which requires a strong signal to decode before errors corrupt the frame. Coded PHY sacrifices speed for range. It slows throughput down to 125 kilobits per second, using forward error correction to encode every single bit of data across eight separate symbols. That mathematical trade lowers the receiver sensitivity floor down to -104 dBm. On paper, the link budget gave a comfortable 13-decibel safety margin. Out in the field, the terrain fought back. Radio energy does not travel in an infinitely thin laser line. Over 13 kilometers, the wave expands into an elliptical cylinder known as the first Fresnel zone, swelling to 20 meters (65 feet) wide at the midpoint. Every hilltop, tree canopy, and barn roof entering that 20-meter zone scattered the wave. Signals reflecting off the dirt arrived slightly out of phase with the direct beam, carving deep cancellation nulls. Over a thirteen-minute listening window, the receiver caught exactly three intact packets. Three packets every few minutes is useless for streaming audio or loading a webpage. But for physical surveillance, three packets is total visibility. Apple Find My, Google Find My Device, Tile trackers, continuous glucose monitors, and car digital key fobs broadcast unsolicited advertisement beacons every second. An attacker sitting on a high-rise balcony or flying a drone with a directional grid antenna does not need to connect to your phone or crack an encryption handshake. They only need to listen. Bluetooth is thirty-year-old technology, yet modern operating systems still treat its signal as proof of physical proximity. An antenna with passive gain proves that proximity was an illusion all along.

Meanwhile, in Josh Shapiro’s Pennsylvania, “assignments asking students to ‘honor’ a Hamas-backed resistance movement and identify the United States and Israel as terrorist states.”
Philadelphia parents tried to see what their kids were learning in social studies. The school district stonewalled them. It took a congressional investigation to finally expose what was in the curriculum: assignments asking students to "honor" a Hamas-backed resistance movement and identify the United States and Israel as terrorist states. A House Education and Workforce Committee report documents how a small group of school personnel turned the district's social studies program into a political platform for extremist causes. A teacher eventually shared the materials with an outside advocacy group — but only anonymously, fearing retaliation for disclosing what should be public information. Parents should never need an insider, an advocacy organization, and congressional investigators just to find out what their children are being taught. Full story here foxnews.com/opinion/parents-…

REVEALED: Minnesota employers are recruiting nurses from KENYA—with green-card sponsorship, immigration costs covered and temporary housing. Their plans include placing nurses together in rural communities. The industry association helping expand the operation has a foundation awarded $1.68 MILLION in taxpayer grants for immigrant and refugee workforce programs. Global Care Recruiters co-founder Traci Larson explained the rural strategy: “we can’t place just one Kenyan nurse way out here in Marshall, MN.” Her recommendation: “We should probably look at a few [nurses].” The groundwork included a delegation to Kenya led by Democratic state Rep. Mohamud Noor. He helped establish a Nairobi examination center so Kenyan nurses could more easily take the licensing exam required for American nursing jobs. Minnesota providers visited recruitment agencies and nursing schools. Their stated purpose included: “represent Minnesota as a state to welcome diasporan nurses warmly” Four senior-care employers subsequently established Global Care Recruiters. By September, it reported more than 60 nurses in the pipeline and over 100 candidates undergoing legal review and employer interviews. Its website tells recruits: “Global Care Recruiters covers the cost of your immigration process—there are no fees for you to pay.” No repayment required. Partner employers provide temporary housing. LeadingAge Minnesota’s business subsidiary is helping run and expand the operation. Meanwhile, the association’s foundation received the taxpayer grants to build immigrant-worker recruitment and support resources—including a 64-page employer guide, translation devices, regional job fairs and a map connecting workers and families with more than 250 support organizations. It calls this: “practical infrastructure—not simply one-time programming” The recruiter’s ambitions extend beyond nurses to nursing assistants, culinary workers, dietitians and therapists—with potential expansion into other states and source countries. Larson’s own words: “why just Kenya?”

A network of TWELVE Illinois school districts is recruiting teachers from overseas to fill taxpayer-funded jobs teaching American children. Decatur names Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Guyana and the Philippines among its recruitment countries. Peoria Public Schools sponsors the J-1 visas. With extensions, teachers can remain in U.S. classrooms for up to FIVE YEARS. An April government document touts 282 international teachers—and says foreign recruits filled 116 vacancies in Peoria alone over five years. Private recruiters charge for access to this pipeline, too: We Dare To Teach’s published Peoria partnership policy lists a $3,000 first-year fee paid by participating teachers. Decatur says the recruits receive the same contract and benefits as existing teachers.

I for one like the renewed focus on setting things up to defend the homeland.
FORTRESS is strategic deterrence in action, ensuring our defenses are hardened, proactive, and ready. I created FORTRESS America because we can no longer rely on two oceans to protect us. That outdated assumption no longer reflects the threats we face. President Trump and Secretary Hegseth understand this and have already paved the way with Golden Dome and a renewed focus on the Western Hemisphere, including Greenland and Panama. All of it reflects a fundamental shift in how we defend America. War has evolved, the threats have evolved, and our defenses must evolve with them. foxnews.com/politics/inside-…

WTF?
JB Pritzker called for "disruption" against the government. Then he gathered generals and dared the Commander in Chief to try to "conquer" Illinois. What do you call it when a governor stirs up the streets and lines up military men against America? Sedition.

Fascinating
Fifty meters beneath a quiet soccer field outside Tokyo sits a concrete cathedral big enough to swallow the Statue of Liberty. It is not a movie set. It is Japan's frontline defense against typhoons, officially called the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel. Inside the main pressure tank, fifty-nine concrete pillars rise eighteen meters into the dark. Each pillar weighs 500 tons. When a massive typhoon slams into eastern Japan, five rivers overflow into giant underground silos. Those silos feed a four-mile tunnel that channels the floodwater straight into this subterranean temple. People always ask why the pillars have to weigh 500 tons each. They are not just holding up the ceiling. When the tank is empty and the surrounding ground is soaked with rain, the upward pressure of groundwater is so strong that the entire cavern would float up through the earth like a submarine if those pillars did not pin it down. At full power, four jet-engine turbines pump 200 tons of water per second out into the Edo River. Since it opened in 2006, flood damage in the surrounding basin has dropped by nearly ninety percent. On dry days, you can walk across the floor for about twenty dollars. Politicians love to build monuments people can see from space. Japan spent thirteen years building a masterpiece fifty meters underground so millions of families could sleep dry in the rain.

Japanese account creating the best American propaganda
If someone asks you how much a single family's life is worth to the United States Navy, tell them the exact price: ten million dollars of steel. On April 29, 1975, as Saigon fell, a tiny two-seat wooden-and-fabric Cessna plane with almost no fuel left circled desperately above the American aircraft carrier USS Midway. Inside that tiny cockpit, a father named Major Buang-Ly had crammed his wife and five small children, including a baby. He scribbled a note on a map, wrapped it around his pistol so it would not blow into the ocean, and dropped it onto the carrier deck. A young American sailor picked up the crumpled paper and ran it up to Captain Lawrence Chambers. The note read: "Can you move these helicopter to the other side, I can land on your runway, I can fly 1 hour more. Please rescue me. Major Buang, Wife and 5 child." The flight deck of the USS Midway was completely jammed from bow to stern with military helicopters. A Cessna has no tailhook to catch carrier wires, and its pilot had never landed on a ship in his life. By every military regulation, Captain Chambers had been in command for only five weeks. Throwing millions of dollars of U.S. government aircraft into the sea without permission from Washington could end his career in a court-martial. Chambers looked up at the tiny plane circling in the wind with five children inside. He did not call an accountant in Washington. "Clear the deck," the captain ordered. Hundreds of young American sailors in yellow and green jerseys ran to the edge of the ship, put their shoulders against massive Huey helicopters, and shoved ten million dollars worth of machinery straight off the cliff into the South China Sea. Captain Chambers turned the giant carrier into the wind at twenty-five knots. The tiny Cessna came down, bounced once on the steel runway, and rolled to a safe stop with feet to spare. When the cockpit door opened and five small children stepped out onto the deck, three thousand American sailors roared so loud it drowned out the engines, and immediately passed around a hat to collect cash for the family's new life in America. When the math says a child's life is too expensive, an American throws the math into the ocean.
