I used to say it and I'll keep saying it: George Orwell was way ahead of his time.
The obsession of an incompetent government with numbers and statistics is as old as time itself.
Orwell portrayed it so beautiful in his novel 1984.
In 2026, Nigerians are living in it.
Since last Saturday, I've not heard UP NEPA in my street.
All I've been hearing is the humming noise of generators, mine included.
But here's the Minister of Power rolling out statistics.
Orwell would have loved to live in Nigeria.
He wouldn't have a library big enough to contain his manuscripts.

Ndi Koto since you've finally landed at APC were you belong, the easy way to enjoy the national cake, & most importantly you've finally gotten help to leave Nigeria & wouldn't want others to leave so you can keep getting, name one LGA chair that donated 1000 transformers, only a Governor that wants to impact the masses will go the length and not derelict responsibility to LG, and if you think you have a banger, it was a big deal in 2014 to provide one transformer, not to talk of 200 - 1000 transformers. We will be here to laugh at you when all this your antics amount to nothing.

Once again: Nigeria’s poverty is driven mainly by governance failures, corruption, oil theft, insecurity and wasteful spending not the people.
Anyone telling you anything different is a fool!
Nigeria has a revenue problem because of decades long corruption & taking extremely foolish loans. NNPC still uses large forward oil sales, committing over 180,000 bpd to repay multi-billion-dollar deals.
Selfless leadership without corruption would raise our oil production, cut leakages and lift per-capita income well clear of lower-middle-income levels.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Zamfara state.
- About 8 in every 10 people in Zamfara live in multidimensional poverty.
- One doctor serves roughly 34,000 people.
- More than 269,000 children in many LGAs have never received a single vaccine.
- 6 in 10 children aged 6 to 15 are not in school.
- 119 out of every 1,000 children die before their fifth birthday.
- Nearly 4 in 10 children under 5 suffer from stunted growth.
Ladies and gentlemen, are you not entertained?

NIGERIA MUST BE OK! 🇳🇬✅
Two years ago while a Fellow in Washington a Nigerian tv network interview me via zoom on the matter of apparently low tax revenues/ GDP ratio. I tried to make the point that in a Nigeria where the social tax to extended family is high and most people are their own LGA providing security, light and water the calculus need not be as in the US or Europe. Tax I argued should be related to Industrial policy, how to encourage domestic capital formation and accelerating production and investment in preferred areas. It seemed to me the key was to tax and spend when the cost of governing was bloated and politicians were focused on self and blinded to the common good. I reminded of the gospel of Arthur Laffer and Supply Side Economics about optimal tax rates. Those considerations continue to shape our input.

President Trump, a Christian president, visits Israel to discuss trade and investment during his campaign, then Saudi Arabia to discuss trade and multi-billion-dollar investments with the King of Saudi Arabia.
Guess what Tinubu went to Saudi Arabia to do?

This is exactly the point I made on my space yesterday. The federation has got to step into the power value chain and de-risk it by providing subsidies
Today, Nigerians can't afford power.
“There are two other impediments to sustainable power supply. The government’s risk guarantee has not been provided. The suspension of the partial risk guarantee instrument in 2015 has made it impossible for investors to invest in national grid power. Only one power plant was built with a partial risk guarantee: Azure Power in Edo State.
“What happened is that when the government of 2015 came, they looked at how much money you have to pay per month for grid power from Azure. They said, ‘No, we cannot continue like this’. But actually, that is what the electricity business is about.
“I can tell you that since 2015, not one single power plant except what we have there, the Aba project, has been added to the grid. This country continues to grow in population, and we desire the businesses to grow. But there is no investment in new power plants, none. For 11 years, no new power plant has been built. And that is because that partial risk guarantee has been wiped off,”

“Remember, we have installed a capacity of 13,000 megawatts, but we can put about 5,000MW on the grid. So, let me use that 5,000 MW. So, N50 subsidy for 5,000 megawatts in a month is about N180 billion.
“In one year, it is N2.16 trillion, just N50. So, you can imagine having to subsidize 10,000 megawatts, or if we get there, 20,000 megawatts. And this is why the debt owed to Genco is over N7 trillion today,”

Nigeria is a very, very funny country, and sadly, many Nigerians lack foresight.
A while ago, retired police officers protested over unpaid pensions, and guess what? Serving police officers were deployed to stop them from protesting.
Now, retired military personnel are protesting over the same issue, and serving military officers are resisting them.
The irony is that these serving officers don't seem to realise that they're looking at their own future. One day, they'll retire too, and they could find themselves in exactly the same situation.
Wallahi, the lack of foresight in this country is astonishing.
