What does April 2027 mean for NHS suppliers? 🩺
Enhanced Carbon Reduction Plan requirements mean suppliers will be expected to report Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions.
The challenge is having the data needed to report them.
With just over six months to go, suppliers should:
•Establish who owns carbon reporting within their organisation
•Engage with their supply chain
•Identify key supplier data gaps
The earlier these foundations are in place, the better prepared suppliers will be for April 2027.
770,000 tonnes of plastic film are placed on the market in England each year.
But as mandatory household collections approach, a key question remains:
Is the infrastructure ready?
The industry needs answers on:
- The costs of collections, handling, sorting and recycling
- Where infrastructure capacity gaps exist
- What the changes could mean for Local Authorities

The PPWR starts to apply today. What does that mean for your business?
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) marks a major shift in packaging compliance across the EU and Northern Ireland. While implementation begins on 12 August 2026, requirements will be phased in between 2026 and 2030.
PPWR Specialist and Research Lead Harry Russell welcomes this milestone, saying:
"What's notable about the application of the PPWR today isn't just what's changing for all those involved in the supply of packaging into the EU; it's what is still to come. PPWR replaces a directive that member states could interpret differently with a single regulation applied consistently across all 27 countries, creating greater harmonisation for compliance. However, key drivers of the circular economy within the EU come later, including recyclability grading, recycled content targets and harmonised labelling. Today is about getting the foundations right: conformity documentation, compliance data and understanding where you sit in the supply chain. Get that right now, and the rest of the timeline becomes far less daunting."
Understanding what applies, when it applies, and how it affects your packaging can be challenging.
Whether you're looking for immediate support or building a long-term PPWR strategy, Valpak can help at every stage of your compliance journey. We also run regular free webinars to help businesses stay informed and prepared.
