A lot of people may be finding out that P/E ratios are a terrible way to invest in cyclicals…..

Always find it odd that we don’t get discussion on staples on fintwit… expected forward returns of Nestle, Danone, Reckitt, would be far more interesting (and probably more profitable) than some science project shitco on a (insert country) junior exchange….

Maybe, but who knows….
Very little chat about the “bubble” recently on fintwit. Probably means the whole Ai thing is about to completely explode.

It was only a few years ago that the majority of the population were 100% certain than wind and solar were a lot cheaper than oil and gas as a source of energy. This is finally breaking as the public rage against the green subsidies added to their bills and the pressure builds on the government to push through new oil and gas…. You can say whatever you want but when the actual physics begin to cost people serious money they turn….

Ahead of tomorrow's Budget, a rather pertinent quote I've just encountered for the first time (referenced in Niall Ferguson's The Cash Nexus)

Halma starting to look interesting here at 23X forward. $HLMA.L 10 year historical fcf annualised growth 12.5%, EBITDA 13%.

Men are just now starting to learn what women knew all along: it takes many years and a lot of money to become a Hermès bagholder.

If you want to see Britain doing well again one of the quickest and most effective things we could do is align politicians finances with their decisions. Get rid of their gold plated pensions and give them defined contribution schemes like the rest of us but with the only possible investments as the FTSE all share and Vanilla UK Gilts. All politicians will also have 20% of their salary paid into a smaller company domestic U.K. fund. They can only vest their shares after 10 years and they lose the lot if they have been found to have taken a bribe or lied.

Still just the start of the journey… Train hasn’t even left the station…. $DSG.L
Sold my Experian to raise funds for a new position in Dillistone group $DSG.L This is quite a risky one for me as it’s just at the start of its transition to a serial acquirer platform. Matthias Riechart is the Architect here with his P&R real Value at 16.94% ownership, a chunk of shares are also owned by Chris Mayer’s Sun Mountain Fund LP at 12.85%. I’ve started a bit punchy with 1.3% of my portfolio in the shares. 😱

Still foookin got it….. now hopefully breaking out… RELX PLC $REL.L
Another banger, (please ignore Diageo and Pernod till they are above my cost basis). Sold my Experian recently to fund the Dillistone purchase but still have my RELX. $relx.l another bottom tick….

Now could be n excellent time to pick shares in Judges Scientific. $JDG.L The analysts have targets way above where we are now, some 100% upside. This is a wonderful little British serial acquirer of scientific instruments and niche industrials. Very disciplined, intelligent and experienced management. They have been hit with quite a lot of headwinds, much of which was out of their control. The business is still running well and they will continue their growth and acquisition algorithm. This too shall pass…

From my intern called Grok: For a 4-year horizon I assume: • Recovery from the 2026 trough toward more normalised earnings power (reflecting improved US funding visibility, a Geotek expedition, and operational leverage). • Subsequent total EPS growth in the low-to-mid teens annually, combining ~5–8% organic growth with disciplined M&A (redeploying free cash flow at attractive returns, consistent with the group’s history). • This produces roughly 370–400p of adjusted EPS by 2030 in a base-to-constructive case. • A terminal multiple of ~20× (below the higher multiples the shares have often commanded historically when growth was stronger, and reflecting a larger, still high-quality compounder). That combination supports a ~£80 target. Reaching it from £34.30 over four years equates to a ~2.33× capital multiple, or ~23.6% annualised. Dividends (currently yielding ~3.3% and growing) would add to total return but are excluded from the pure price-target calculation. This is a reasoned base-to-positive scenario, not a precise forecast. Upside could come from faster M&A deployment or stronger organic recovery; downside risks include prolonged US funding weakness, execution/integration issues, higher interest costs on leverage, or a lower multiple if growth disappoints. The long-term drivers of scientific instrumentation demand and the group’s acquisition discipline remain intact.

Terry Smith maybe should have held on a bit longer. Big reversal today in the high quality compounder bro names. I always wonder if these big days are the result of just huge algorithms and AI systems flipping the switch on different groupings of stock or whether we are seeing human action.
