Excelente semana en Toronto participando de las reuniones de la CRSB y la GRSB. Actualizando conceptos y avanzando globalmente.
The European Parliament has rejected the European Commission’s country benchmarking system under the EUDR; the system meant to classify countries as low, standard, or high risk.
At face value, it looks like a call for more transparency:
✅ Better data
✅ Stricter definitions
✅ Real consequences for major deforesters
But the result? A regulatory vacuum.
⚠️ Without a benchmark system:
- No country is officially 'low-risk' per the EC a couple months ago
- Simplified due diligence is off the table (for now)
- Enforcement agencies have no guidance (also, for now)
Now the Commission must rewrite the country benchmarking.
