From my non-social-media spouse, a new paper, using LLMs to replicate ... everything.

Headlne: "Across 4,452 published replication packages for five economics journals, the workflow flags discrepancies in 3,460 articles or their appendices."

STOP ASKING YOUR WIFE "HOW WAS YOUR DAY"
she will say "fine" every single time
replace it with this instead:
“analyze your day and find the top 3 largest inefficiencies, then create proactive agentic workflows that will fix them. make no mistakes”
The tools to develop new drugs and vaccines have improved enormously, so why haven't we cured all diseases yet?
Listen to my TED talk to find out!
It's finally here! I gave a TED talk in April in Vancouver, and it was released online today.
You can watch it here:

I've also adapted it into an article, which was published last week: worksinprogress.co/issue/fut…
BIG NEW piece by me.
A few years ago, if you asked me to summarize my entire worldview in one article, I would’ve said it was too broad and too difficult. But this year, I decided to do it.

The central drama of the modern world is innovation against suffering, and we have made incredible progress so far.
But we are doing far worse than we could. Millions still suffer from untreatable diseases, because of bottlenecks that we could fix. You can help fix them.

The hype over UK refusing air conditioning seems overblown. I just got aircon added to my Dad's London house and faced no barriers or criticism except that demand is very high and everything is out of stock. Simpler explanation: it was not needed before. True in my childhood home
Enjoyed this post by @vientsek!
As AI speeds up drug discovery, clinical trials are going to become even more of a bottleneck.
Innovative trial design, like platform trials, can make it faster and cheaper to test drug candidates, but they haven't been adopted widely.
Funders can change that by designing the trial as well.
It would also help make head-to-head comparisons between candidates.

It's so scary to think we have to find somewhere to store the dangerous waste like a desert or underground or something, which is a major problem unlike with fossil fuels where we safely store the waste in the atmosphere and our lungs
If one can of nuclear fuel can provide a lifetime of energy requirements for one person, where are they going to put the 70 million cans of waste for 10,000yrs?
NB. There is only one new UK nuclear waste depository and it's located right on the very north coast of Scotland. 🤔
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While "70 million" sounds large, 70 million soda cans take up a very modest amount of space. It can fit in a cube under 30 meters (100 feet) on each side. Alternatively, it can fit in about 5-10 swimming pools or a couple hundred standard shipping containers.
