This is an interesting comparison. $60k in St. Louis equals to $150k in NYC. So extra $10k really won’t make much difference. We need bigger solutions (or everyone should come for postdoc at @WUSTL 😉)
Raising postdoc salaries by 10k or even 15k won’t solve the problem. But if schools step in and provide subsidized housing and free childcare, it will have a real impact. @NIH could make a difference if indirects would be allowed for childcare and housing.

Looks like a really powerful tool to do fine-grained circuit dissection with combinatorial +|- opto during behavior! 🐭👏 @OferYizhar & @JWietek et al bravo!
New preprint from the lab! We conducted a systematic analysis of bistable optoGPCRs for presynaptic inhibition, which led to the characterization of PdCO: a bistable inhibitory OptoGPCR for multiplexed optogenetic control of neural circuits biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Fascinating new study from @changsbrain lab that #vagus neurons process and organize information from the immune system BEFORE forwarding it to the brain....this will get you thinking about how and why you react to #inflammation. doi.org/10.1088/1741-2552/ac… via @ioppbio
