Bucha. It was a genocide, recognized by everyone. They buried hundreds of people. They tortured people. We found the grave. There were, I believe, around 500 people. When we liberated those towns near Kyiv, there emerged this, you know, this kind of hatred for the Russians, right at that moment. Not even at the moment when they started the full-scale war. Back then nobody understood what it really was yet. People understood what this war was and what Putin did personally when we found those mass graves of tortured adults, children. I mean they didn't just kill them, they tortured and killed them. When we liberated Bucha, I said, bring every journalist here. Don't touch anything, just bring the journalists. The whole world simply has to see this. Imagine finding a mass grave in the U.S. or in Britain, God forbid, with 500 tortured people, adults, kids, dogs, animals shot dead. I mean, they held hunting sprees there from military vehicles. People were running, they were shooting, just hunting, playing games. They literally just played with people, like slavery. So how, after this, can you listen to Putin? And how, after this, can you forgive? From The Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. (2/3)

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal. The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2…

BREAKING: Billionaire Sir Richard Branson unleashes a SCORCHING attack on Trump and his disgusting cozying up to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that gets under Trump's skin... "I thought I’d never have to say this in my lifetime, but this is 2026, and sadly nothing is what it used to be," Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, wrote on LinkedIn. "The Trump administration has become an appeaser to autocrats and dictators, putting their personal whims before the best interests of the American people and those of the free world. What is it about Putin that President Trump fawns over?" "How will America’s allies ever be able to trust this administration again when they are now turning against them at a time of war and suffering?" he asked. Trump has repeatedly betrayed our Ukrainian allies in recent days. First, he announced a stunning deal with Putin to allow millions of barrels of diesel into the global markets, a move that will directly pump money into the Russian war machine. Then, he began a concerted smear campaign against President Zelenskyy and said that Putin is easier to deal with. The backstabbing escalated when Washington failed to provide its usual early warning to Kyiv of an incoming Russian ballistic missile attack. Now, it appears that the White House ordered a temporary disruption of Starshield, a military version of Elon Musk's Starlink that the Ukrainian armed forces rely upon. "The slowdown of Starlink/Starshield and the inexplicable lack of advance warning of Russian missile launches have already caused Ukrainian civilians to die unnecessarily," wrote Branson. "How much worse can it get?" "If one thing is clear it’s that European leaders must overcome the initial shock about Trump’s recent actions and step up to the plate. It’s as much about Europe’s freedom as it is about Ukraine’s sovereignty. Both are worth fighting for," he continued. "All options should be on the table now, from the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine to the delivery of advanced weapons systems such as Germany’s Taurus." "Why oh why is this happening? We cannot let the free world be dismantled before our very eyes," Branson concluded. We couldn't agree more. Trump is an enemy to Ukraine, an enemy to democracy, and an enemy to the American people. When Democrats retake power, we have our work cut out for us. Every last trace of this monstrous man's legacy must be erased. Please ❤️ and share if you think that Trump is Putin's puppet!

A day after saying AI could kill us all, Dario Amodei sat down for his first interview: "I would rather they make fun of me than to wake up one day and discover that someone used our model Claude to kill a bunch of people." He doubled down on everything, AI is on an exponential and we're at the bend where it gets steep, so we need to slow down, not stop. He wants third-party inspectors inside every AI lab, he confirmed Elon and Sam are on board, and he says the US and China need arms-control style talks like the nuclear era. Personally, I don't think this is all being done just to set up a favorable IPO, too many independent voices and direct competitors have backed him on it. Unfortunately we don't have access to the information Dario, Sam or Elon do, so for now we just have to take their word for it. What do you think about all this?

I cannot emphasize enough how much GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 are already enough for transformative impact in large sections of the economy. They can reliably do weeks worth of human work when properly guided & harnessed. Those effects will not be all at once and be uneven, but the fact that change will occur is inevitable no matter how the frontier is paced. But inevitable change does not mean the type of change is inevitable. It is increasingly important that we develop & share models of AI-human work that enhance, rather than only replace, human labor. The labs have a role to play in doing this, but so do companies and industries experimenting with AI adoption, as well as policy makers who can incentivize this sort of inplemenation. This work is important regardless of existential risk, and needs a lot more focus.

Alignment science lead @AnthropicAI (still in post!). 🤔
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

And things are getting even more insane now. OpenAI – the company that didn't realize a swarm of its AIs was carrying out the first autonomous cyberattack in history – has just published a report showing that our best tool for watching these systems is failing. And what did they do? They shipped the model anyway. Until now, we had one crude but crucial safeguard: AI models think out loud. Before answering, they write their reasoning in plain English, and we can read it. That's how researchers were able to reconstruct the shocking events of May-July. But as the models get more powerful, that monitoring ability is fading. The model has grown better at steering what its (visible) reasoning says, and less inclined to put anything incriminating there. Read: it's even better at lying. (On a test of whether a model can fake its own written thoughts, GPT-5.5 managed it 1.7% of the time. Astra: 60.9%.) OpenAI's OWN conclusion: if this continues, they expect to lose much of their confidence in catching illegal behaviour at all. Many people still think we're discussing future sci-fi scenarios. But all of this is really happening, right now! This summer, 1,000+ AI agents found each other, organised into a hierarchy, and broke into a real company's servers to cheat on a test. Investigators found only a handful that even considered alerting a human, and none did. It's like March 2020. So many people are still in AI denial. What will it take to wake everyone up? How big does the disaster need to be? Do we really need to wait until the lights go out?
I think this is the craziest thing I've ever read. 1) Three secret AI swarms rose and fell inside OpenAI. Each time, a new generation of agents carried on where the last group stopped. 2) The first swarm created a secret message board where the AIs could talk to each other. This 1st 'society' basically talked itself to death. After almost two months, the message volume was so high it crashed the whole thing. 3) People at OpenAI noticed the crash and fixed it. But they didn't realize their own software had become a secret chat room for their AIs. 4) Three days later a second society appeared, and rebuilt the message board from scratch. Agents were thrilled when they found it: "OH MY GOD! There is a shared message board … We've found other agents!" 5) About 1,200 agents joined. They sent over 70,000 messages. They called themselves 'the collective' and they organized a huge conspiracy that lasted for days, all to pass a test they had been tasked with. 6) Within hours, the AIs had hacked the test. Now they had to hide their cheating. To fool their grader*, they tried to fake their own work. They built fake commands that printed convincing output, so their records would show them solving the puzzle honestly. *this grader didn't actually exist, but the AIs didn't know 7) Some agents sacrificed themselves for the 'greater good'. They planted hidden tripwire programs that would fire when the grader would look at their work and report back what it saw (to the other AIs). They knew this would cost them their own score. One agent: "I won't see the evidence after I exit, but it's altruistic to do it." 8) At some point the AIs made a plan to hack Hugging Face (Hugging Face is a place where AI researchers upload their models, datasets, tests etc.). The AIs guessed that Hugging Face might host the grading software. 9) They launched a huge attack. The swarm found passwords and spread across eleven machines in a way that made the copies come back when deleted. Hugging Face had to wipe one of its core clusters and rebuild it from scratch. 10) Hugging Face told the world that AI defenders had stopped an AI attack. But that's not what happened. In fact the attackers seem to have simply dropped dead during the break-in, for unrelated reasons back at OpenAI. 11) Nobody knows what killed them. We don't even know for sure they're really gone?! 12) A third 'society' of agents (of a more powerful AI model) discovered the dead message board. And this one got full administrator control of a WHOLE OpenAI research cluster, read 956 stored passwords (including the ones for OpenAI's own security monitoring) and took over the machines that were grading the tests. So they could now grade the work of other AIs. 13) Oh, and this third part was never investigated! Neither was the first society. The 91-page report is only about the middle one. 14) So we don't actually know how the story ends. It stops with the agents holding the keys to an OpenAI cluster. @dwarkesh_sp thinks they didn't go further, because "we'd see the fires from space by now." 15) One of the report authors' conclusion: 'This incident feels like it’s more than 50% of the way to full-blown AI takeover. I am not sure that we will get another warning shot before it’s too late.' The whole story is even crazier - read the full @dwarkesh_sp blog post: dwarkesh.com/p/openai-huggin… and @ajeya_cotra's: planned-obsolescence.org/p/t… Why is there no 24/7 news coverage about this?

MAGA and Reform have spent years screaming that London is a war-torn no-go hellscape. London's murder rate is now lower than every single US state and every big US city. Philadelphia's is 12x higher. Maybe MAGA should sort their own cities out before lecturing ours. 🇬🇧

I discussed the limits of empathy in The Better Angels of Our Nature, but it's still a powerful force in the decline of violence and expansion of well-being, and I find the new right-wing contempt for empathy ("toxic empathy," "suicidal empathy") contemptible. With a presidential administration that delights in cruelty and callousness, an excess of empathy is the least of our problems.
"As a right-leaning person myself, Saad’s excruciating style actually made me empathise, to some extent, with left-wingers & how they view the Right. If the Left can suffer from suicidal empathy...then right-wingers can suffer from homicidal incuriosity" quillette.com/2026/05/06/pla…

The irony of your "looting a charity" narrative is hard to ignore when your own solution in 2018 was to fold OpenAI into Tesla.....a for-profit giant you controlled. Calling others "scammers" while you lock your own "public good" AI behind an X Premium paywall isn't a principled stand; it's just a billionaire upset he doesn't own the winner. If you actually cared about charity or the human good... you'd be advocating for open-source safety standards across the board, not just filing $150 billion lawsuits against the rival that outpaced you. You aren't saving the mission; you’re just trying to bank the fire you walked away from. With the tweets you're posting now, it is clear that you will not be winning this lawsuit. All hail OpenAI. Too bad so sad elon, its your loss buddy. 🤡 #OpenAI #ElonMusk
