The largest waterfall on Earth is hidden beneath the ocean. And you could sail above it without ever knowing it exists. 🌊 Between Greenland and Iceland lies the Denmark Strait Cataract, an underwater waterfall that plunges roughly 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) along the seafloor. But how can a waterfall exist underwater? ❄️ Cold, dense water from the Nordic Seas flows beneath warmer water and spills over an underwater ridge into the deeper North Atlantic. 🌊 Its estimated flow exceeds 3 million cubic metres of water per second - an astonishing volume that no river on land can match. 🌍 This hidden cascade helps drive the ocean's deep circulation, which transports water, heat and nutrients around the planet. Unlike a waterfall on land, it produces no towering splash or thunderous roar above the surface. Its immense movement unfolds in the darkness of the deep ocean. The ocean hides wonders that make the surface world seem small. If the world's largest waterfall is invisible from above, what other enormous natural phenomena are we still missing beneath the waves?
There are “rivers” flowing beneath the ocean. Not freshwater rivers. Something stranger. In some places, extremely salty water becomes denser than the seawater around it. It can sink to the seafloor and then flow downhill through underwater channels, sometimes carving paths across the seabed. These flows can behave remarkably like rivers.. with channels, currents, and even sediment banks. They are known as brine pools and brine flows, and some are so salty that they form distinct bodies of water on the ocean floor. The most mind-bending part? You can have one body of water flowing through another body of water. The ocean above. A dense, salty current moving along the bottom. Earth is full of landscapes we never see.

☁️ Why don't clouds simply fall out of the sky? Clouds are made of tiny water droplets and ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. But if water is heavier than air, why don't they fall like rain? Here's the fascinating science. 👇 💧 1. The droplets are incredibly tiny. Most cloud droplets are so small that they fall extremely slowly, allowing even gentle air movements to keep them suspended. 🌬️ 2. Air is constantly moving. Rising air currents help keep cloud droplets aloft, counteracting their slow downward motion. 🔄 3. Clouds are constantly changing. Water vapour condenses into droplets while others evaporate. A cloud may look stationary, even as the water inside it continually changes. 🌧️ So, what makes rain fall? When cloud droplets collide and combine, they can grow large enough that gravity pulls them down faster than air currents can keep them aloft. A cloud isn't a giant piece of cotton floating in the sky. It's a constantly changing collection of tiny water droplets and ice crystals. The sky isn't holding clouds up by magic. It's physics at work. 🌍
