Investigation: Who were the men in the car with lathis as Delhi police stood by?

On the public anger against TV media: the average person on the street is not responding to individual reporters, they don't know their bylines or body of work— but what TV news has come to mean. And so it ceases to matter whether every channel has good reporters, ofc they do, but their presence alone cannot repair the damage done night after night on primetime. Owners and editors need to answer for what they have been putting on air, and their role in making the streets unsafe for their own anchors/reporters.
Meanwhile, even the harshest critics of Godi must know what's unfolding now on the streets is HARASSMENT for clicks/content — the exact thing TV news channels promoted for TRPs. This is exactly what repulsed us about TV news, and this is qualitatively different from a protestor's RIGHT TO CHOOSE to disengage. If those of us in digital media support this content-baazi in the name of some comeuppance or even journalism, we're ushering in our own demise.

Anyone who gets detained will come out with serious doubts on whether @DelhiPolice's attempts at initimidation are working. My report from inside the now-infamous community centre at Pandwalan Khurd. newslaundry.com/2026/10/14/w…. cc: @svaradarajan, @Jayati1609, @Aakar__Patel.

The million-dollar question. Are the efforts by @BJP4India and @delhipolice to intimidate Indians working? If the detention centre at Pandwalan Khurd is anything to go by, nope, nada, nahin. (And, trust me on this. I was in there).
Beatings, seized phones, and detentions on the outskirts of Delhi.
Read @mrajshekhar's chilling eyewitness account of a crackdown that appears to be fuelling the anger it seeks to contain.

उस कार की पूरी कहानी-
A car that police seemingly failed to stop and check in CP on Oct 11 belongs to a man who had days earlier joined chants urging police to beat protesters. One occupant was filmed pulling sticks from the car.

This is a very disturbing watch. @dhanyarajendran pieces together how close to 30 journalists were roughed up, assaulted and detained while covering protests. In some cases their cameras was illegally taken away.

Four of us — @AshwineSingh , @anmolpritamND, @AnshuAn71912319 and I — were detained, had our phones taken away, and were manhandled and mistreated.
We’re back on the ground. We’ll keep reporting, anyway.

UPDATE: Three Newslaundry reporters detained by Delhi Police.
Our reporters @AshwineSingh, @SavyasachiAstha, and @anmolpritamND have been detained while covering the October 10 protest. Delhi Police have also seized Newslaundry’s official phones, which our reporters were using to carry out their reporting duties.
When the journalists identified themselves as media personnel, they were reportedly told, “Koi media nahin hai.”
Around 30 people have been put into a single bus, including protesters and journalists. Our reporters have identified Inspector Dhan Singh Malik as the officer who snatched the phones.
Journalists are there to report, not to protest. They were not obstructing police operations. On what grounds are they being detained and their phones seized?
@DelhiPolice must explain these actions and allow journalists to do their jobs without intimidation.
