Yesterday we celebrated one year since solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump staking went live.
Today we want to go past the celebration and look at what that year actually showed.
More than 81.4 million solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump is staked, and holders have earned more than $83,000 in rewards. But the most telling part of the year does not appear in either number. For most of the year, you had to wait to get in
The Whale pool and the Legendary pool spent almost the entire year full. If you wanted a spot, you could not simply deposit.
You had to wait for somebody else's lock to end, and even then, the space was often taken again quickly.
Think about what that means. These are the pools with the longest locks, 30 and 60 days, where your tokens cannot move until the term ends.
The design rewards staying, not trading
Every pool pairs a lock period with a rate, and the longer the lock, the higher the rate. The structure pays holders for the one thing that keeps a community stable, which is time. Tokens committed for weeks cannot be sold in a moment of panic, so the supply that would hit the market on a bad day is simply not available.
No single wallet can take over
Each wallet can stake a maximum of 200,000 solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump per pool, and the minimum is only 100 solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump. The cap is the reason the full pools stayed shared across many holders instead of being filled by a few large wallets. The low minimum means almost anybody can take part, so the rewards spread across the community rather than concentrating at the top.
The NFTs earn instead of waiting

The rewards come from the community itself
solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump has a fixed supply, and staking rewards are not created by printing new tokens. The reward pool was funded by community members who contributed their own solana:HgBRWfYxEfvPhtqkaeymCQtHCrKE46qQ43pKe8HCpump so that other holders could earn. In most protocols, yield dilutes everyone. Here, it is believers rewarding the people who commit.
What the year really proved
A staking platform can be built well and still sit empty.
We built staking to reward holders for committing. What we learned over the past year is that the commitment was already there before the platform existed. Staking did not create conviction in this community. It gave that conviction a place to be seen, measured and rewarded.
