Big update! 🇱🇹💥 Lithuania is one step closer to allowing nuclear weapon stationing (and permanent foreign bases). On 6 Oct, the Seimas (Parliament) voted to lift the constitutional bans on nukes and @NATO basing. The penultimate hurdle is cleared! 1/5

Both options are possible, the F-35A / F-16 A/B and or Tornado IDS need to get very close (probably less than 15 km) to their target before releasing the B61 nuclear bomb. So it is crucial to disable as many air defense systems as possible before the DCA arrive.
I forget who it was - Martin or Alexander Wellerstein or someone was looking for data on US theoretical experiments on ultra-high-yield nuclear weapons. I found this. Not incredibly useful, but interesting in terms of a timeline.

Even worse, in practice it is not operating at speeds remotely near the new velocity restriction that suddenly came into effect last night.
“Starlink terminals used by Ukrainian drone units began experiencing signal failures at speeds above 160kph, disrupting several missions early on Wednesday morning, according to military personnel and senior Ukrainian officials.
‘Logistics at the frontline and middle strikes are badly limited,’ one senior Ukrainian official familiar with the situation on the front told the FT. Ukraine’s middle strikes target Russian military supply lines and logistics. The limitations came with ‘no warning, just in the middle of the night’, the official said.”

Russian officials say that if #NATO were to attack #Russia or its parts like the #Kaliningrad region, the military conflict would be very brief. Do our Western opponents understand this hint?
☢️ Today was the first day of flight of STEADFAST NOON 2026 exercise in Italy.
As a reminder, this is NATO's annual nuclear exercise.
According to the official statement, this year's edition involves the assets of 17 nations contributing to the nuclear mission of the Alliance, be it through nuclear means ("Dual-capable aircraft" or DCA) or conventional ("Conventional support to nuclear operation" or CSNO).
The exercise does not involve any live nuclear weapon.
So far I have been able to see only the force multipliers:
- one Italian G550 AEW&C aircraft
- one NATO E-3A AEW&C aircraft
- one Italian KC-767 tanker
- one NATO MRTT tanker
- two German A400M transport aircraft probably in refueling configuration.
According to the SUPAIP published by ENAV for this exercise, most of the action will happen over the sea and over Eastern Sardinia.
I have yet to identify the "target" (it was easier last year over the Netherland)

Another banger by the irrepressible @ellliecoook in @Newsweek on North Korean warheads and missiles, using nukemap!

The final vote to change Lithuania's Consititution is on 12 January 2027, requiring a 2/3rds majority. If everyone shows up, that's 94 of 141. The first two of three votes (July, October) have both exceeded 80% of those present, so, looking good... 5/5
