Dragon Ball Super: Beerus / Episode 3 SB - Matsuto Seya ( PN ) ED - Kokoro Kondou Kondou takes on the episode direction here, and sadly, this is one of the weakest episodes I’ve seen in terms of execution, particularly regarding the compositing and directorial choices. The animation is very limited, which is expected for a low-priority episode, but the bigger issue is how poorly the material is handled. The pacing should have been one of its biggest advantages, yet the episode struggles to maintain scenes even more than the movie and original DBS TV series. It’s a shame considering Kondou isn’t inexperienced in episode direction, but his choices drag the episode down considerably. The staff lineup is also fairly small, with Yoshitaka Yashima being the most notable animator involved. The compositing is especially poor, with the gray screen during Beerus slapping Bulma being a prime example. The scene is held for far too long, making the execution feel awkward rather than impactful. This is accompanied by limited animation and noticeable errors, while the direction fluctuates between passable and outright poor. I can’t lie; I was pretty bored watching this one. Although it was a low-priority episode, the production limitations don't excuse the weak staging, timing, and compositing choices that ultimately undermine the experience. Seya could only do so much with the storyboards, and nothing particularly stands out, especially with Kokoro’s questionable choices. Ultimately, it isn't a terrible episode, but it's a mediocre experience that fails to make the most of its material. RATING: 4/10 #dragonballsuper #ドラゴンボール超

Sonny Boy / Episode 10 SB/Script - Shingo Natsume ED - Tomoya Kitagawa & Kento Matsui Shingo is finally back for more storyboard work, but this time, we have two episode directors handling the episode, which is a first. Tomoya and Kento are the chosen participants, and I can say that their combination works very well together. My guess is that Tomoya handled the B part while Kento took on the A part. Despite this, the episode shows some clear visual upgrades compared to the previous one, and that helps tremendously, especially with Natsume's boards serving as a solid foundation. The colours and art direction are also much stronger here, making this a far better visual representation of the episode's ideas. This felt like a recap episode at times, but it never came across as jarring or out of place, as the retrospective nature of the episode is clearly tied to its plot. In this case, it explores themes of romance and affection through a character named Nozomi, whose monologues really shine through. It's a curious concept, but I think it does a good job of building character and adding some depth to the narrative. The team here is fairly solid, even if there isn't anything absolutely insane or particularly noteworthy from a production standpoint. Still, I enjoyed this one, and it stands out as an episode worth remembering. #SonnyBoy #サニボ

I just finished Ranma S2E11 and wanted to share some screencaps I took because this episode looked phenomenal. It was directed and storyboarded by Yoshiyuki Kaneko, who if you don't know, was the assistant director of Cyberpunk Edgerunners S1. He directed and storyboarded several episodes of that series Suffice to say, I think some of his directorial sensibilities reeally shine through here. The use of colour, lighting and photography feels subtly distinct from the rest of this remake, and it gave the episode a very distinct visual identity imo. Take a closer look at some of these screencaps if you're interested. You might notice some of the visual choices that make this episode stand out from the rest #らんまアニメ #らんま #ranma

Sonny Boy / Episode 9 SB - Keisuke Kojima ED - Atsushi Kashiwa We got a bit of a surprise with the storyboards this time around, as Keisuke Kojima is handling them, who, mind you, is a pretty big deal across a lot of productions. Atsushi Kashiwa is handling the ED side, and frankly, this episode was a bit weaker in that regard. Still, there were some fun shots and interesting compositions that gave the episode some merit. The episode focuses on the three cats, as we finally learn that they can actually talk. I won't lie, the art direction feels a tad weaker here, but it arguably works in the episode's favour, as Kojima's boarding style helps enhance the overall vision. The animation itself doesn't move all that much, but the CAD, Keita Nagasaki, is a well-known figure for his creative corrections and distinctive drawing style, which help tie everything together. I'd say this isn't a bad episode by any means, and I did enjoy it, but there wasn't anything particularly crazy or noteworthy that really stood out to me. #SonnyBoy #サニボ
