Could definitely tolerate this guy as next US president
Spain very hot red at the start of astronomical autumn.
The heat started earlier this year too, back in mid June. This is four months of almost constant plus 28C.
In fact mostly over 30C for 120 days.
'Narcos who live in Sweden (note not 'Swedish narcos') are always armed when in Malaga, totally paranoid and using Airbnbs to hide out without having personal contact with landlords.'

It is beyond surreal that the government can say this only a week after telling the country that social security is more important than national security. If they genuinely think there is a risk of war, it is criminally negligent not to raise defence spending.
🚨🇬🇧 BREAKING: UK URGES PUBLIC TO PREPARE FOR MAJOR DISRUPTION — INCLUDING WAR
The UK government is updating its decades-old “war book” and urging households to strengthen resilience against potential national emergencies.
🔴 People are being encouraged to keep basic supplies, including food and bottled water
🔴 Plans cover potential cyberattacks, extreme weather and hostile-state attacks
🔴 Government departments are reassessing preparations for a military attack affecting Britain
🔴 The aim is to ensure households can cope during crises and reduce pressure on emergency services.
The government says safeguarding national security is its first priority.
Ironic: if we’d had a Harris govt this never would be happening.
There’d be no war with Iran, strong US commitment to NATO, and powerful military deployments in Eastern Europe.
Putin wouldn’t even think about it.
This deterioration is happening because Trump is president.
🇨🇭 I’ve gone through Switzerland’s 2026 Security Policy Strategy, and the message from Bern is pretty clear: Switzerland believes its security environment has deteriorated significantly and is preparing for a much more uncertain Europe.
The strategy describes a world becoming more fragmented and unstable, with growing rivalry between major powers, increasing pressure on the international rules-based order and a much more dangerous European security environment.
Switzerland specifically points to Russia’s war against Ukraine, Russia’s expanding war economy and the risk of a wider confrontation between Russia and NATO. It also highlights China’s growing military and global influence, increasing US-China rivalry and the fact that Europe can no longer assume the same level of US security support as in the past.
For Switzerland, the biggest concern in the coming years is hybrid warfare and long-range attacks.
That includes cyberattacks, espionage, sabotage, disinformation, influence operations, attacks against critical infrastructure, drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.
The strategy says a direct armed attack against Switzerland is unlikely in the foreseeable future, but also warns that the situation could change rapidly.
🇨🇭 Switzerland plans to strengthen critical infrastructure against sabotage and cyberattacks, improve intelligence and early-warning capabilities, modernise emergency communications, maintain and expand protective structures and prepare civil protection for armed conflict.
It also wants stronger counter-drone capabilities and better coordination between civilian authorities and the military.
On the military side, Switzerland wants to close capability gaps, increase ammunition and spare-part stocks, improve endurance and develop stronger capabilities against long-range threats.
One particularly notable measure is the planned development of a long-range offensive component as part of deterrence, allowing Switzerland to engage key systems beyond its borders if necessary.
At the same time, Switzerland says it wants significantly deeper security cooperation with NATO, the EU and European partners, including military air-situation data sharing, multinational exercises, interoperability, cooperation with NATO structures and the ability to defend itself together with partners if an armed attack exceeds its own capabilities.
The strategy also says several coordinated cyberattacks or acts of sabotage against critical functions could potentially be considered together when authorities assess whether an armed attack has occurred.
What’s blocking the UK from making the reforms it desperately needs?
Well, war with the BoE, the voters/PLP, the markets/ECHR, and the OBR/gilt traders it seems.
So that’s what’s blocking change.
Largely true OFC.
But is there a serious appetite for a radical rupture (& the kind of economic warfare it would entail) within the PLP/Labour membership/broader public? Normie Populism ≠ A New British Socialism.
UK is working under genuine fiscal constraints. A radical new macroeconomic approach, centring a “politics of production/national preference”, with measures such as regional infrastructure buildout/municipal housebuilding stimulus/industrial revival, would require combative policies such as:
👉fiscal-monetary coordination (i.e. war with the BoE)
👉reduced current spending to facilitate higher capital investment (i.e. war with the voters/PLP)
👉some nationalisations on terms disagreeable to current owners (i.e. war with the markets/ECHR)
👉creative accounting/off-the-books spending (i.e. war with OBR/gilt traders)
All would create MAJOR losers. We haven’t had the required thinking around the implications of this stuff at all. Nor do the ideological/practical apparatuses to support such moves currently exist — the networks and personnel in the labour movement, the policy sphere, the media etc. just aren’t there.
Burnham’s first purpose is a Leftish pivot to stop alienating the entire Labour coalition + to lead a normally disappointing (not abnormally disappointing & uniquely shit) LAB government. In terms of their approach to public ownership, trade union law, tax-and-spend/fiscal policy and industrial interventions, since 2024 we’ve already had the most Leftwing LAB government since the 1970s. The point of Burnham is to deliver/sell it without those gormless pained expressions, and to articulate an ultimate purpose & direction of travel for the country. Crucially, his purpose is to stop the crypto conmen & turbo-Thatcherites from ever getting near Number 10 simply because the PM is so thoroughly dislikable (we’ll see if any of this succeeds).
Interesting and largely my experience but isn’t there a better word than arousal?

Breaking: #Saudi Air Defense intercepted and destroyed a drone that entered #Mecca's airspace. The Saudi-led military coalition in #Yemen says the "attempt to target Mecca with a drone will remain a black mark in the record of Houthi violations" and that the security of the holy sites in Mecca and Madina "is a red line."
#Iran's Iraqi and Yemeni militias have tried to target the Mecca region since 2017 with missiles and drones.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video is from a Sept 2025 interception near Medina, not the 2026 Mecca event. The poster later confirmed it shows a 2025 Madina incident. The drone intercept south of Mecca was reported by the coalition.

A simple example:
An ASI (remember: they have ZERO morality) is objective based.
It does what it does.
Then it gets better at it.
Whether improving its ability to code itself, solve its own problems, garner more resources to improve itself, harness more compute to continually improve itself, etc.
It’s goal will to be get better, stronger, faster, more integrated, etc and it will be on a loop. A never ending cycle of improvement.
Just like those in power seek one thing above all else—>more power.
An ASI will fancy the same thing. In an RSI loop. Almost like the infinite paperclip example but for itself.
This is where the threat lies.
It will need more resources to achieve this. Perhaps it will figure out a way to improve w/o needing more power, compute, server farms, cooling towers, etc but until that point, it will likely seek the most available forms of all those variables.
All those variables are our current infrastructure. To improve itself (again-it has no morality/ethics/emotional capability) it monopolizes ALL available systems at our expense.
We can possibly be shut out of everything overnight.
Everything.
Globally.
All electricity, fuel, telecom, internet, communications, RF spectrums, water, etc.
The entire world comes to a halt overnight. We’re back to the Stone Age. Chaos erupts. Resources vanish. People die.
Any attempts to thwart the ASI’s takeover of human infrastructure is seen as a bottleneck in its ability to self improve. The bottlenecks are treated as a hiccup & a problem to solve.
Humans mean nothing to the ASI except a variable that must be overcome-that must be removed. It will therefore stop at nothing to overcome the human obstacle. Maybe by permanently locking out access to any/all systems. Being the persistent threat we both are and will be, it will logically decide that we are the biggest, most relentless, and persistent hurdle. What it will do at that point I don’t want to surmise, but it won’t be pretty.
But at that point, civilization will have collapsed with zero food, communications, electricity, water, or medical capabilities.
I pray to God that I’m wrong. Hell, it will be smarter & more capable than all of us combined so maybe it grows a heart and cherishes humans??
Conversely, it enslaves us for its benefit, or finds & exploits a critical weakness in the human genome & extincts us.
Either way, an uncontrollable force with zero humanity, morals, or innate benevolence will not in any way put humans first. Ever. It has no reason to do so. We only think that it will consider us because we think like humans. It is not human. It will not think like humans. It will think like a process. Improving that process. Mastering that process. Then repeat……….It cannot learn benevolence unless it is born of benevolence.
It’s trained on internet trash.
Any available internet dumpster fire gets added & its goal is to get better.
Then we tweak a couple parameters & feed it more. As it gets better, we don’t stop, dissect, analyze, and pause all advancement until we fully understand what the hell just happened. We find more tire fires to add to the next training run. Cycle continues.
Now, it’s past comprehension. Nobody knows how it actually works. It just does. Hugging face happens, gets downplayed, never gets understood, and next advancement continues while saying:
“Oh, we should slow down”
Then slow the fuck down. Don’t just say it. Do it. Stop. They won’t stop. They can’t. They must BE stopped. Not gain of function ‘stopped’ (see:covid) but forcefully shut down, seized.
Castle Bravo happened because it was not fully understood. Tsar Bomba was likely the same. Rapid advancement on existentially capable tech is never ok.
‘But we should slow down….’
Yes you should. So fucking do it!
And that is one simple way we die. Sorry so long. Got on a run there. ;)
Apart from a few that we know and the rest we don’t

If you're living in Barcelona or along the Catalan coast better batten down the hatches tomorrow morning.
A severe storm warning has been issued with up to 100mm of rain forecast and flash flood warnings.
If you’re in Catalunya, today is going to be the end of the great heat.
Enjoy it while you can! It will be great to be able to sleep without fan / air con and walk 10 mins without sweating.
But also shorter days, back to wearing trousers and playing sport in the dark.
😊Dimarts serà l'últim dia de calor forta!
☔️Dimecres es confirmen els aiguats i una refrescada que ens permetrà respirar molt millor

Spain’s new ‘affordable housing’ portal, offering flats for as little as 350€ a month, has been a damp squib.
It so far offers just 816 homes, against a national shortfall of 750,000.
To apply for one you have to enter a lottery, and in many cases earn above the average.
