Yesterday our @we_are_seen_ ambassadors from Northern Ireland, presented their work as part of the project 'Life Through My Lens'.
Using photography to explore their individual experiences with identity and culture.
Thank you for an incredible day!💚#SEEN

We have been collecting UK-based evidence on the experiences of trauma, racism, and trauma-informed care among Black, Asian, and minority ethnic individuals.
We sat down with Kiah to discuss her experience taking part in the research.

Please take a moment to hear from Doreen, a Barnardos SEEN ambassador. At the House of Lords this Monday she delivered her Maiden Speech, with other young people.
This was enabled and by the Speakers Trust.
Great things happen when we work together and young people take the stage
Thank you @Sarahcrawley18 for being here to launch our Children Visible by Colour report in Cornwall.
The report outlines the experiences of Children & racism with action points to be piloted in Cornish schools.
So many professionals in the room, we are feeling hopeful.

@we_are_seen_ hearing from Ghino Parker that curiosity is good , it’s ok not to know , “ it’s better to get it wrong and be nurtured into getting it right , than sit with an assumption’ . @BarnardosNI
#identityinassessments
Young people introducing their rules for professionals, including:
- Listen to me
- Give us equal opportunities
- Don’t stereotype me
- Ask me what my everyday life looks like
- Ask me questions about me
#identityinassessments
Our Ambassadors Aya & Taleen explain why the project was important: “When young people feel heard & understood, it can help them reach their goals. By sharing their identity they can help professionals understand their hopes, needs, & wishes better.” #identityinassessments
Our Ghino opening the conference to speak to the why we do what we do: “intercultural dialogue is about understanding how similar we all are” but we also need to understand our unique identities #identityinassessments
Josh & Kirsty from the team are today joining @barnardosNI & @we_are_seen_ colleagues at the launch of ‘Life Through My Lens’ - a photography project all about #identityinassessments, centring children & young people’s lives experiences 💚
📸 Opening words from @MicheleAJanes
Today we launch #lifethroughmylens - an incredible project where we gave 68 #children and #young #people cameras to understand their worlds and identities #identityinassessments @BarnardosNI @barnardos
Cllr Sajid Mohammed “We have to acknowledge there are people in our city who are not starting at the same line as others. We must not be afraid to say the system is institutionally racist. We need to unite on a common platform of justice. I recognise we need to do better”
“By involving communities in the scrutiny process we hope to instil trust and confidence in the public”
George Bascom, policy and scrutiny officer at @NottsOPCC

This is so disappointing to hear, but sadly not surprising. Exactly why organisations like @thehalocltv are lobbying for Black hair to be a protective characteristic and why the Black Hair and Skin project that I lead for @we_are_seen_ @barnardos is so necessary.
