If you think these dudes are anything other than decent blokes who did something good for excellent charities, you are part of the problem. #CelebrityTraitors

If you're bored/a bit fed up, read all the posts complaining about the winners of Celebrity Traitors giving their winnings to a refugee charity. Honestly, the venom/anger is off the scale! Well done, Romesh! A good cause & plenty of laughs reading all the 😡😠💢🗯️comments!

I pay the licence fee, and I'm very happy with the winners' choice of charities.
The end of #CelebrityTraitors was the most BBC thing EVER. Because of COURSE the two winners are donating their winnings - our licence fee money - to a charity for refugees and a charity for "queer" refugees.

I do think the announcement for discounted rail tickets for people with ADHD wouldn't have caused outrage had the second comment stating "applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis" been included in the main post. Talk about burying the lede.
🚨 NEW: People with ADHD can now get a third off train tickets under Government changes to the disabled railcard to include people with neurodivergence

Completely agree with this! Actually, unless they can prove that they were mistaken, I think MPs giving out false or misleading information (especially for engagement on social media) should be suspended! Also, they have, IMO, a duty to CHECK things BEFORE they talk about them!
Replying to @JoePJRobertson
MP given out misinformation should be sued . This is a disability railcard it is not given out for ‘mild mental health conditions’ are you also against all the other railcards that are on offer ? None of them funded by gov. This is disability hate you are peddling

Did you not see the bit where it said they would be issued on a case by case basis? You can no more get a card by just stating you have ADHD than you can get a bus pass by just saying you're state pension age!! teapawt.org/JoePJRobertson/status/…
Handing out disabled rail cards and 30% discounts to people with mild mental health conditions is mad. And to force doctors and health proesssionals into a gatekeeping role is worse still. At a time when the Government should be reducing the welfare bill they are expanding benefit entitlements even further. The Labour Party is the Welfare Party. thesun.co.uk/news/40856734/a…

Can someone please explain to me what the hell all this 53% income tax for pensioners is about? I've looked at some examples and none of them were paying 53% income tax?? I don't think my brain is working today!

OHHHH KAYYYYY. I love watching Taskmaster (Britain), it’s always been one of my fave shows. BUT. Two particular contestants have been called “they” (May Martin and current contestant Chloe), and I cannot get my English language speaking head around why this makes sense. Why not just call them by the name May or Chloe, instead of calling them ‘they’?

@grok so this figure of 53.33% is a bit contrived and only on a very narrow band above the allowance?

No, Pat. His “only crime” was not protecting his family. Can we please stop rewriting this man’s documented history every time a court convicts him? Stephen Yaxley-Lennon’s record includes: - assault and public-order convictions - drug offences - illegally entering the US using somebody else’s passport - a £160,000 mortgage fraud - repeated contempt of court after breaching an injunction imposed because his allegations against a Syrian schoolboy were found to be untrue and defamatory And now a jury has found him guilty of harassing two journalists causing fear of violence. This case involved hiring private investigators to locate journalists, targeting them and their families online and telling one of them: “I’m coming to get you.” That isn’t “protecting his family”. And spare me the endless “two-tier justice” routine. This is a man who has built a career raging about crime, lawlessness and other people supposedly refusing to respect British values while repeatedly ending up convicted under British law himself. That is the hypocrisy. You scream about law and order until the law is applied to somebody you’ve decided is a hero. Then suddenly the courts, the police, the offences and even the jury verdict are all illegitimate. He was prosecuted. He had a defence. A jury heard the evidence. They convicted him. You can dislike the verdict all you want. You don’t get to rewrite his criminal history into “his only crime was protecting his family”.

Some benefits are taxable though! Also, the main means tested benefits are nowhere near the personal allowance, so wouldn't attract tax. Basic UC amount is just over £5k a year! (Sorry to reply this way but OP has me blocked!) teapawt.org/HoggarthJan/status/211…

Takes no account of wealth/disposable income, someone living in a Band D for yrs with no mortgage vs young family in Band E struggling to pay mortgage & make ends meet. I hope this is challenged. Same with benefits being uprated same as state pension, but benefits not taxable.

The National State Pension IS and has always been a benefit. National Insurance Contributions are a tax by any other name, not an individual contribution to a personal pension fund. I can’t believe people still don’t get this. Income is taxable, above the tax threshold.

I wish people would stop saying that #UniversalCredit is more than #StatePension! A single person, age 25+, on basic amount of UC, gets £424.90 a MONTH, how is that more than SP? SOME may get extra for help with rent but pensioners can get help with rent too, if on a low income!

Married men paid the same amount of NI as a single man on the same salary; they didn't pay more. My mum got a SP for 16 years just because my dad paid NI. She never earned enough to pay NI. teapawt.org/TolgusB/status/2115802…

My mums pension was a wife’s pension, she got something like £20 a week because back then many firms didn’t offer women a separate pension scheme and my dad paid extra so she could have a state pension. So many people don’t understand how it used to be back in the day

Only if your total income is somewhere in the region of OVER £125,000!!!!! So UP TO 49% is key here! Many will pay nowhere near that amount!!! Misleading people is as bad as lying in my book!! teapawt.org/ZiaYusufUK/status/2115…
Have you worked hard and managed to save up some money? Labour just decided to punish you by increasing the tax on the interest you earn. It’s up to 49%. The state will now take almost half of it. To fund a welfare bill heading for £431 billion and hotels for people who broke into our country. Reform will REWARD the people who pay for this country, not punish them.

Just over half of that welfare bill is state pension! I do wish you would all stop lying by implying it's all going to people who are unemployed! In fact, many are disabled/sick and some are IN work!! Get your facts right! teapawt.org/ZiaYusufUK/status/2115…
