"Prop. 36 tried to create a solution for a problem that didn't exist...voters were gaslighted."
@TinischHollins of Californians for Safety & Justice points to new data from CA's DOJ that shows property crimes at historic lows in 2024...BEFORE Prop. 36 was passed.
70% of Californians voted for the proposition which increases penalties for repeated retail thefts.
Gov. Newsom didn't support Prop. 36 and is now not funding it in the budget he just signed. He's encouraging local jurisdictions that supported it to fund it on their own.

Today I am proud to introduce AB 321, which empowers judges in criminal cases to review a prosecutor's charging decision at all stages of a case, ensuring that charges reflect the individual's conduct fairly.
Thank you to @sfdefender and @safeandjust for your support!

In this crisis, I'm struck by how much better every L.A. media outlet -- right populists KFI, left-liberal KCRW and KPCC, the L.A, Times, KTLA, KCAL and more -- are performing than X, save for very high information consumers who can most easily separate the idiocy from the gems.

It’s almost too hard to believe. That in 2024…the final year in Oakland, #24 would no longer be with us. He was and will always be the greatest of all time. Absolutely heartbroken.
Can almost hear the voice of God, Roy Steele calling him home.

“We need police who are willing and able to arrest people ….”
Quiet part out loud. Cops decided they were not going to enforce existing law.
Cops don’t get to decide that, to conclude penalties aren’t harsh enough. And, here we are.
