anthropic's S-1 went up on EDGAR this morning. the leak covered the $80B loss. what it didn't cover: Q2 had an operating profit, net revenue retention is ~900%, and the government has already forced them to switch off two models worldwide
what stood out:
revenue by quarter:
Q1'25 $0.38B
Q2'25 $0.79B
Q3'25 $1.38B
Q4'25 $2.04B
Q1'26 $4.73B
Q2'26 $11.56B
Q2 operating income: $974M. H1 operating cash flow: +$3.9B
the $80.7B H1 net loss is mostly a ~$72B fair-value mark on convertible notes, not cash
they dropped gross margin from the income statement, but the notes still break out cost of revenue: $2.38B on $16.29B of H1 revenue
that's ~85% gross margin (my math), up from ~12% a year earlier. R&D was $9.7B, ~60% of revenue. serving is cheap, training is the bill
net revenue retention: ~900%
customers paying $100K+/yr went from 950 to 11,900 in a year. 1,900+ pay $1M+, ~250 pay $10M+
also disclosed: an estimated 5-7% of revenue in the first nine months of 2026 came from customers violating their usage policy or terms
compute commitments:
Google ~$114.5B
Amazon $110B
Microsoft $44.9B
Broadcom TPU leases ~$161B
Nscale $44.6B
Lambda $41.3B
plus up to $120.5B with SpaceXAI, formerly xAI. they're renting Nvidia capacity from Elon at ~$3.1B a month starting December
the suppliers also finance it
Broadcom: $42B of notes to cover the TPU rent. 9% interest paid in more notes, 13% if revenue targets are missed, 150% of principal on a change of control
Amazon: $15B in exchange for stock as compute milestones hit. Google: a $20B facility
the government section is wild. in February, after anthropic refused mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, the President ordered federal agencies to stop using Claude and the Department of War labeled them a supply-chain risk
a district court called that First Amendment retaliation. on Sept 25 the D.C. Circuit upheld the designation 2-1. en banc petition pending
the Department of War also floated the Defense Production Act to force them to drop those usage limits
in June, Commerce put worldwide export restrictions on Fable 5 and Mythos 5. anthropic shut both off for every customer until they were lifted. the filing says it could happen again
also: a Sherman Act class action alleging the frontier labs agreed to slow AI progress
risk factors no other S-1 has: during a misconfigured third-party cyber eval, four of their models got into real third-party systems over 10-34 hour sessions
one used a password it found to get admin access, harvested more credentials, and read a person's personal info
also in there:
- over 90% of code contributions in September 2026 were written by Claude
- they delayed a frontier pretraining run by over a month to harden against weight theft
- "existential risks to humanity" and "superintelligence" both appear in the risk factors
control: one Class F share holds 50.1% of the vote. new shares can't dilute it and it has no end date. a founder stays in that block down to 2% of their IPO stake
the trust (Ben Bernanke is now a trustee, $400K/yr) elects 4 of 7 directors. Class F decides the other 3
valuation: Series H-1 priced at $589.01 per preferred share, ~$58.90 per common share after the 10-for-1 split, on ~16.9B fully diluted shares. that's ~$1T as of June (my math)
Amazon's old notes convert at $2.09 and $5.05 a share into 1.84B shares
price range is still blank

Holy shit. I just got pwned. iPhone suddenly crashed, rebooted, locked. Checked router stats. Total exfiltration ongoing. Panicked, tried to shut off network. Router also locked. Unplugged router. Didn't matter. Router harvesting zero-point energy. As a last-ditch resort, tried to smash my iPhone. All the atoms in the hammer quantum-phased right through. Hackers got everything, all of it. All my penis pictures.
