Parkinson is now the 3rd longest-serving manager in the Premier League and EFL. Only Arteta at Arsenal and Clough at Mansfield have been in their jobs longer. 3 successive promotions, 5 years at Wrexham and still going. Football management really is a different world. #WxmAFC

Thank you for your incredible feedback to our #Newsnight Aberfan special last night. We really really do appreciate it. The former Bishop of Liverpool actually took to the trouble today to ring the NN desk (he chaired the Hillsboro Independent Panel which helped uncover the truth for victims’ families) He wanted to express his appreciation for last night's ‘outstanding’ programme and the ‘time & context given to the story’ If you missed it, plse do watch the testimony from survivors Jeff Edwards, Gaynor Madgwick & Gerald Kirwan who were 8 years old, and sitting in class, when that coal tip engulfed their school bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

Heartbreaking. The price of coal. The subsequent whitewashing and passing the buck-total criminal negligence. Sixty years on and still no one held accountable. The powerful crushing the powerless for all those years. Huge respect to the “little people” for fighting back #Aberfan

Tonight's Newsnight focused on the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster: Victoria Derbyshire, "How could anybody think it could be alright to have a quarter of a mile high slurry - that was notorious for sliding - above a school?" Jeff Edwards, one of the three then 8 year old survivors, "The reason the tips were on there, it was the cheapest land" My view: On 21 October 1966, 144 people died in Aberfan, including 116 children. The tribunal’s finding was unequivocal: blame rested with the National Coal Board. It said the disaster “could and should have been prevented.” Yet no one was prosecuted. Lord Robens, the NCB chairman, offered to resign, but the government refused to accept it. Officials criticised by the tribunal were moved to other work within the Board. The NCB paid £500 for each child killed. The public had raised around £1.75 million to support the bereaved and the village, but the fund was then required to contribute £150,000 towards clearing the remaining tips above Aberfan. That money was not repaid until 1997. So the families were left to live with an avoidable loss, a compensation payment many regarded as derisory, and a long fight for accountability. The inquiry named the institution responsible. But no individual was prosecuted, and even money donated to help the community was used to pay for work that should never have been its burden.

Ni fydd hanes Aberfan yn cael ei anghofio. Mae'n stori am y golled a'r galar mwyaf erchyll. Ond mae hefyd yn stori am wydnwch cymuned dros chwe degawd. This is what it means to keep the memory alive. It lives on in every one of us, and that is why we mark this solemn anniversary as a nation.

On the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster, we pause to remember those who tragically lost their lives, while also reflecting on the strength and resilience of those who have grown older living with the loss, grief and trauma caused by that terrible day. Cofiwn Aberfan.

There are days we never forget. Friday October 16, 1966 is one, a tragedy of cruel magnitude and to think that the Wales-Scotland match went ahead the next day at Ninian Park as scheduled.
Laid a wreath and paid my respects at the Aberfan Cemetery, along with the Lord Lieutenant and two survivors, in remembrance of the victims of the disaster 60 years ago.

Between 1968 and 2005, F.C. Porto played an incredible 114 games at home in European competition. In all those matches, Porto only conceded more than two goals on two occasions. These were lineups from those two games. #WrexhamInEurope
