Twenty-two miles up and down Mt. San Gorgonio was the easy part. Hiking back in the dark and jumping back from every shadow my flashlight made behind errant branches was the real heart-pumping workout. I swear I saw (and barked at) a dozen skunks that actually didn’t exist.
