Marp Core v5 RC now supports some mermaid diagrams, but its dependency beautiful-mermaid looks unmaintained.
Context free rendering
Sync API
Full mermaid diagram types
Zero dependency
Used by Obsidian
There are reasons to switch to Pele 🕹️
Prefer this one 👀
This is Pele, my new rendering library for diagrams and charts, compatible with the latest Mermaid syntax.
- 100-500× faster than mermaid.js
- 6× smaller bundle
- No dependencies
- Easy to theme
- Responsive to device width
In pursuit of making Obsidian insanely fast and cohesively designed, I always found the Mermaid library to be too big, too slow, and too hard to theme. Pele will be the new renderer in the next version of Obsidian, but you can start using it now.
Pele [ˈpɛlɛ] is named after the goddess of volcanoes and fire. It's open source under the MIT license. Try the playground!
Still it's simple: review code highlight definitions 🖍️

Marpit is too bare-bones, while Marp Core feels too heavy 😵💫
The next Marp Core will be slim by default and much easier to embed! 🪶

Don't masuda. Feel free to report an issue! (The latest release of Marp has fixed this as a side effect of improved Firefox compatibility)
A common misconception is "Marp requires VS Code"; it can actually be used "anywhere" powered by the ecosystem projects, seriously 😉
Marp for VS Code also updated to v3.6.0, including Marp CLI v4.5.0 ✨
