I'm grateful that I am surrounded by kind and intelligent people. They always remind me, in the most inadvertent ways, that kindness and community is necessary to produce good research.
You all inspire me to be a better person and researcher! 🥰❤️
#HappyNewYear everyone! This year has taught and brought me new challenges and experiences! Wishing continued growth and stability for all of us 🫶

@herdelineardona and I had a blast hosting the first (of hopefully many more) UCI Filipino graduate student dinner gathering last weekend! Cheers to Filipino science! #UCI

I just realized I've been training my models without using my GPU 😭 No wonder they've been taking foreveeeer. I thought I just really needed an upgrade 😬
Oh well another day, another TIL ig😅
Being an international student really is a unique experience so much so that even if I've only been one for only 9 months I can already tell how much it has reshaped me into a new person.
As a foreigner I quickly became aware that I cannot always understand my environment, its customs, and its culture which has been quite the eye opener because I realize that as long as I approach things with well intended curiosity, everything will be fine.
🎞️ Movie Reviews Thread 🎞️
I'll be trying to post short reviews of movies I watch here and they WILL NOT HAVE SPOILERS because nobody likes those 🤧
Suzume no Tojimari:
As usual Makoto Shinkai's films are always breathtaking as he just really illustrates landscapes in Japan in the most beautiful way. The character and narrative progression made total sense and the OSTs were also beautiful.
5/5 stars 🌟
Mentorship really is central to the development of a researcher ‼️
There have been so many times that I felt lost in the process, sad about results, etc. but my twice a week meeting with my adviser has helped recenter and ground myself 🥹
Today I was doing some end of quarter reflection and wow am I really blessed that I wake up everyday doing what I love - research!!
It's def not easy and at times can feel overwhelming but it feels comforting to know that there really is nowhere else I'd rather be but here.
This is because the way GPTs work is it's just guessing what the best combination of words are to the prompts we give to it.
What makes ChatGPT so special is that it has been trained with ENORMOUS amount of information which is why it can handle such a variety of prompts.
This article by NYTime is a great and easily digestible way of understanding how ChatGPT works 😊nytimes.com/interactive/2023…
Daily reminder to people using ChatGPT that while it's a really great tool for streamlining your productivity
DO NOT USE IT AS YOUR PRIMARY LEARNING RESOURCE
Exhibit: I asked ChatGPT what link I can access to confirm it's statements and it COMPLETELY MADE UP NON-EXISTENT LINKS
My toxic trait is not documenting the concepts/frameworks I learn while researching and having to re-learn them from scratch again 3 months later 🥹
Glad that the competition for the MR/VR space is expanding because this would def accelerate the innovation and improvement in the MR/VR technology, incentivize generation of more applications and games, etc.
