Insult a local politician, and police show up at your house. This is exactly what happens in... China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Belarus, except this is the UK.
Everything dictators have been doing in their countries for decades is coming to the UK, and then Canada. But all of this is for your own good you see. How dare you have an opinion without a license?
I hated every mail + calendar client I've ever used in the last 20+ years. Too slow, too many features I don't use, not enough of things I'd want, legacy layouts from 2003. No way to change it. Annual/monthly subscription.
Not anymore. If you know what you want, and can describe it, and then iterate on the idea for a few weeks while you use the thing you built (some people call this QA), you can arrive at exactly what YOU want. Not someone else, not a customer - you. No cloud AI, local only, instant search, one main screen, personalized filtering/categorization and summarization. Reminders you cannot miss.
I wouldn't dream of undertaking such a project even 3 months ago (inboxes and calendars are deceptively "simple"). Total engaged time ~40hrs, and at least 5x that of "Astra/Claude time". Very happy with how this turned out.

As AI keeps advancing, here is what the next 10 years could look like, according to me (and Claude). Slopcore.
The middle part will get rough, are you ready?
Ever since I saw @anabology's original last week's banger, I remember how fun it was to produce videos and reminded me of the "Smash My IPod/PS3/Xbox360/Wii" days. Pre-Youtube, freeze your ass off outside while holding the camera, go through hours of footage to make a 5 minute clip, toil away on the graphics/music for that dopamine hit at the end when it comes together.
Now the tools are here to get your dopamine hits on a daily (and soon hourly) basis, once you create a workflow. We all have a studio at our fingertips now, just bring your ideas and watch them come to life.

A noble platitude, executed as a nation-wide surveillance state.
There's a profile on how you walk, drive, where you go, what you search and do.
Pray your data doesn't betray you.
So in Canada, a man can go to a woman's prison, do drugs there, and the government will provide the supplies?
Going to jail was supposed to be a deterrent, not a holiday.

Bill C-22 makes Canada an untenable place for most tech companies to operate in, foreign and domestic. With trade uncertainty already hanging over the Canada-U.S. relationship, and a government that says it wants foreign investment, there has never been a better time to fix (delete) this misguided bill. It is in direct conflict with attracting the capital our government claims to want, and literally forces existing Canadian companies to take their taxable revenue elsewhere.
More than 20 Canadian and European tech companies and organizations sent an open letter urging the Canadian government to amend Bill C-22 before it becomes law.
The bill could leave Canadians’ data less secure, undermine encryption, and make Canada a harder place for tech companies to invest and grow.

I built a 24/7 AI news network app ~6 months ago, but the video models were not ready yet. They are now.
Check out the test stream if you want: 10 original shows, real-time context from RSS feeds, X, Reddit, and ADSB antenna on my roof. Generated in real time using Fal's H3 Max.

Installed @dhh's Omarchy the other day, very interesting operating system and concept. Hooked up Grok, had it make a Windscribe plugin. Kinda of a surreal experience having what looks like the OS, building new parts of itself only hours after trying the OS for the first time.
Anyways, if you use Omarchy and Windscribe, try the plugin here: plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.h…
Used Grok Bot as a flight dispatcher for an IFR training flight last night. I am pleasantly surprised with how it did, and the briefing it put together. After checking all the numbers, it was basically 95% right with a few minor incorrect assumptions (wrong SID, idealistic route, wrong fuel burn) which can be easily prompted away.
It consulted all then flight planning resources I would use, analyzed the GFAs, cross-referenced with TAFs, NOTAMs along the way, suggested the correct expected approach, picked the right alternate. There was an incoming weather system, GFA looked scary, but the TAFs disagreed with the conditions expected at the time so Grok correctly suggested a "go" as long as we depart by a certain time from the destination. I would make the same conclusion and all of this turned out to be correct.
I am impressed.
Urgent: Canadian surveillance bill C-22 has passed the House and is heading to the Senate in September.
@jdtabish and Chamber of Progress are leading an open letter campaign to stop it in its current form. If this passes as-is, Canada becomes a much less competitive place for companies like Windscribe and many others, and it will do real damage to the economy.
If you’re a founder of a Canadian company or serve Canadian customers, email Josh
([email protected]) and sign the open letter.
Deadline is August 28. There’s still time to make a real difference.
Fable/Opus/Sol/Grok did NOT 1 shot this kelvin cell themed orbital construction simulator. Although the initial "1 shot ultracode" loaded and showed a space scene, it was nowhere close to being a real sim you would actually enjoy playing. Fast forward ~30hrs of prompting.
Here we have an orbital space station construction sim, where you have to build structures from expandable kelvin cells, that are delivered into orbit by a Starship in collapsed form. You expand it, outfit the faces with modules, manage power, cooling, reboosts, repairs, experiments. Yes, you can go inside and build out the interior too (this part is still basic).
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out visually. Runs great on an RTX 50xx and modern Macs.
