OpenAI Gains Ground in AI Token Spend
OpenAI's share of token spend on OpenRouter jumped from ~15% to ~25% in just six weeks, narrowing the gap with Anthropic as competition intensifies.
AI agents may already be influencing higher-value purchases.
Our latest META update introduces tracking of Muse/agent-facilitated spending, including payers, transactions, spend, and category-level trends.
A look at the current spending mix:
Travel: 30% of spend (just 12% of transactions)
Retail: 30% of spend (35% of transactions)
Insurance: 6% of spend (3% of transactions)
Entertainment & Events: 11% of spend (11% of transactions)
Travel’s outsized share of spend suggests agents are already helping facilitate larger-ticket purchases.
For the first time, Andreessen Horowitz's Top 100 Consumer AI Apps ranks products not just by downloads and traffic, but by what U.S. consumers actually pay using YipitData's consumer spend panels. As the report shows, that 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.
Spend concentration is one of those perspective shifts. The top 1% of consumer AI payers spend over $10K a year on average (work usage may be even higher), and they're still growing that spend, up 80% in the last 18 months.
The median payer spends $300 a year and has barely expanded it. The top 1% alone drives more spend than the bottom 50% combined, and over half of the vendors on the spend list don't appear on the traffic lists at all.
Where people go and what they value are two different leaderboards. We're proud to help Andreessen Horowitz bring both into view. Read the full report from Olivia Moore: a16z.news/p/top-100-consumer…

🚨 The @a16z Consumer AI Top 100 is back - but this time, it's 150!
We added revenue data from @yipitdata to track how consumers are spending not just time, but money, on AI.
The result? A story of heavy concentration among AI's power users. Our takeaways 👇
Anthropic revenue is concentrated among the top 1% of customers, who account for 46% of all spend, up from 25% last August.
Consumer AI spending is shifting: ChatGPT is losing share to Claude and Gemini.
Claude’s share more than doubled from 7% to 19% over the past year, while Gemini rose from 12% to 18%. ChatGPT fell from 76% to 57%.
And the consumer AI landscape is still evolving. Stay tuned for Muse data coming soon.
Miro was acquired today at a 90% discount to its last valuation.
The company reported ARR of more than $500 million in October 2024 and approximately $600 million today, suggesting modest growth. YipitData’s spend data, covering 1.5 thousand U.S. businesses and 4 million U.S. consumers, tells a more concerning story: both customer count and revenue have declined steadily since September 2025.

Nvidia's moat isn't shrinking — it's growing in absolute terms. This chart tracks est. GPU cloud revenue by chip since Jan 2023: total spend is up ~8x, and Nvidia chips are still nearly the entire stack. AWS's Inferentia/Trainium? Still a rounding error.
Note that the data reflects large enterprise panelists, and excludes some major Tranium rental spenders like Anthropic.
AI adoption is broadening: OpenAI and Anthropic are now used by over 75% of businesses, while nearly 40% use Cursor.
Spending on open-weight and China-based providers is up 734% year-over-year in July, though overall usage is still low.
Anthropic Y/Y spend growth decelerated in July as user growth slows.
Total customer spend with Anthropic was up ~2,800% Y/Y but decelerated for the first time, while customer growth also decelerated for the 2nd consecutive month.
Every month we highlight 50 of the fastest-growing AI and software vendors from our proprietary B2B spend data.
This month we added card coverage and a few new names stand out – @ollama is up 90x Y/Y in customer count, while @NousResearch is breaking out meaningfully amongst a prosumer base.
Other highlights – @Kimi_Moonshot (Moonshot AI) (Moonshot AI) is up 20x and @DoppelHQ leads the pack on average deal size at $91K.

I asked the founders if I could say which company this is, and they said ok. It's Greptile, which incidentally also has one of my favorite names of any YC co.

These guys had a crisis in late 2024 when their revenue declined sharply. It seemed dire at the time, but now you practically need a magnifying glass to see it.
The AI race isn't just about revenue.
Our latest Anthropic update shows @AnthropicAI and @OpenAI added a similar number of >$100K ARR customers in June, offering another look at how enterprise adoption is evolving.
Our last @AnthropicAI update estimated run-rate revenue reached ~$69B as of late June, fueling discussion around the company's growth trajectory.
Tomorrow we'll release our latest data covering refreshed run-rate revenue estimates, competitive share shifts vs. @OpenAI , enterprise adoption, and token pricing trends.
Stay tuned.
