Eritrean diasporas are once again rallying to respond to the urgent needs of their homeland. Over the years, Eritreans living abroad have mobilised resources, raising substantial funds to support those affected by conflict while sending essential supplies to help communities in need. They have actively challenged disinformation campaigns that seek to undermine the country’s narrative and have worked tirelessly to build international awareness about Eritrean issues. They have not only defended their nation’s sovereignty but also taken significant steps to ensure its voice is heard on the global stage. #EmbassyMedia

The Eritrean diaspora's involvement in their homeland's affairs has evolved into a well-structured, purposeful movement, reflecting both deep commitment and strategic organisation. For over fifty years, they have played a critical role in supporting the EPLF throughout its protracted struggle for independence from Ethiopian rule. Their contributions were not limited to financial assistance; they also provided essential resources, mobilisation efforts, and advocacy on international platforms, which bolstered the EPLF's cause. Additionally, during the border conflict that erupted with Ethiopia in 1998, the diaspora’s support proved invaluable. They galvanised community resources and rallied international sympathy to uphold Eritrea’s sovereignty amidst external aggression. Today, in the face of renewed hostilities and military campaigns from Ethiopia, the Eritrean diaspora continues to demonstrate its unwavering resolve. They are actively participating in efforts to counter such aggression, showing their readiness to defend Eritrea’s territorial integrity and national identity with the same fervour as during the independence struggle. This collective action reflects their enduring connection to their homeland and their commitment to a stable, secure future for the Eritrean people. #EmbassyMedia

Among two notable African filmmakers, Akínọlá Davies Jr. stands out as an award-winning British-Nigerian filmmaker, screenwriter, and visual artist. He has gained international recognition for his culturally rich, deeply resonant storytelling, as has Ijeoma Akigwe, Director of Marketing and External Relations at the National Film & Television School in London. Akínọlá Davies Jr. produced and directed the film *My Father's Shadow* (2025). Shot on 16mm film, the movie follows a largely absent father who takes his two young sons on a transformative single-day journey through Lagos in 1993, set against the backdrop of Nigeria's annulled presidential election. This film made history as the first Nigerian movie selected for the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a Caméra d'Or Special Mention. It is available for streaming on Mubi. #FilmAfrica2026 #AfricanCinema #DiscoverEritrea #RoyalAfricanSociety #EmbassyMedia

Samantha Biffot is an award-winning Franco-Gabonese screenwriter, film director, and producer renowned for her significant contributions to contemporary African cinema, particularly with her film *Ben'Imana*. Watching her film about the Rwandan genocide was particularly challenging. Set in Rwanda in 2012, the story follows Vénéranda, a survivor of the 1994 genocide. It was a pleasure to meet her, and we exchanged stories. I shared insights about Eritrea, recognised as the site of Africa's longest war. #FilmAfrica2026 #AfricanCinema #DiscoverEritrea #RoyalAfricanSociety #EmbassyMedia

Arnuma Oteh, Chair of the Royal African Society, stands out as a passionate champion of African culture in the UK, inspiring others with her remarkable leadership and dedication! It was a pleasure to see her at the premiere of an African film alongside H.E. Johnston Busingye, Rwanda's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. We watched *Ben'Imana*, a critically acclaimed drama directed by Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo. This film made history as the first by a Rwandan director to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival's Official Selection and won the prestigious Caméra d'Or for Best Debut Feature at the 2026 festival. In October 2026, it reached another milestone, becoming Rwanda's first-ever official entry for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards. #FilmAfrica2026 #AfricanCinema #DiscoverEritrea #RoyalAfricanSociety #EmbassyMedia

I was honoured to receive an invitation to the 13th edition of Film Africa, hosted by the Royal African Society, from my friend Stella Ukozo, Director and Chief Executive Officer. As the largest annual festival in the United Kingdom celebrating African and diaspora cinema, this year's event holds special significance as it coincides with the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society. The 2026 program highlights African women's significant creative contributions to the cinematic arts. Over the ten-day festival, audiences in the United Kingdom will see 25 films from 19 African countries, including new features, documentaries, and short films. We also discussed the possibility of showcasing Eritrean films next year to share the history of Eritrea, particularly the unique stories of Eritrean women. #FilmAfrica2026 #AfricanCinema #DiscoverEritrea #RoyalAfricanSociety #EmbassyMedia

Abiy Ahmed and his government have consistently engaged in misinformation campaigns and provocative rhetoric directed at Eritrea. The Ethiopian regime has taken an aggressive stance, openly calling for military conflict and the invasion of Eritrea. This duality is evident in the government's communications: statements in Amharic are intentionally provocative and inflammatory, while those in English adopt a more diplomatic tone for an international audience. This strategic use of language escalates tensions in one context while trying to maintain a diplomatic façade in another. To shed light on this ongoing narrative, we will translate and share a series of these provocative statements on EmbassyMedia, highlighting the discrepancies and the underlying intentions behind the different versions of communication. #EmbassyMedia

#Eritrea: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Urges AU to Restore Eritrea’s Representation at its Headquarters (Similar Letter Sent to UNECA) *"... The decision of the Ethiopian Government - to expel Eritrea's Permanent Representative and the entire diplomatic staff assigned to participate in the AU - constitutes a grave violation of the Constitutive Act; and, the Headquarters Agreement between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union...". *"... In light of the foregoing, Eritrea urges the policy organs of the AU to take immediate corrective measures to restore Eritrea's rightful representation at the Headquarters of the Union to ensure its full participation in the activities of the Union as a sovereign and equal member, in strict adherence to the Constitutive Act; the Headquarters Agreement; and, the General Convention". (The Letter also underlines that Ethiopia had in fact closed, without any formal announcement, its Embassy in Eritrea much earlier on 8 August 2026). shabait.com/2026/10/15/eritr…

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is playing a harmful/evil role in various conflicts across the Horn of Africa. This ongoing situation appears driven by its desire to secure long-term strategic interests. While the Abu Dhabi government publicly denies these actions, evidence suggests it provides significant financial, logistical, and military support to both state and non-state actors in countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia. It’s troubling to consider the impact this has on those caught in these conflicts. These interventions are part of a broader geopolitical strategy to control maritime trade in the Red Sea, secure access to critical minerals, and ensure agricultural food security. Observers and former U.S. national security officials often describe the civil wars in Sudan and Ethiopia as "the UAE’s war on Sudan and Ethiopia." The UAE relies heavily on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to protect its extensive economic interests, which primarily involve the illicit smuggling of Sudanese and Ethiopian gold, as well as upcoming port development contracts along the Red Sea. This includes control of the Port of Assab and military action against Eritrea. The UAE has emerged as a key ally for Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, utilising its military and financial resources to reshape boundaries in the Horn of Africa. Heavy cargo aircraft have frequently been tracked making runs between Abu Dhabi and Ethiopia's Harar Meda airbase, delivering air-defence systems and ammunition to strengthen the Ethiopian military amid ongoing domestic insurgencies. International policy experts warn that the UAE’s actions are exacerbating the world’s largest humanitarian crises by turning fragile East African states into competitive military staging grounds. This situation is driving mass displacement and undermining European and global efforts to stabilise vital shipping lanes. The actions of the UAE in this context are deeply concerning and can be viewed as a crime against humanity in the Horn of Africa. This issue is not just for Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa; it affects all of Africa. The international community and African nations must act to stop the UAE and Ethiopia's harmful activities. #EmbassyMedia

The people of Eritrea, both those living in the country and the diaspora worldwide, are unwavering in their readiness to defend our beloved nation against any potential invasion. National security is a paramount priority for every Eritrean, and we know our adversaries often underestimate our resolve and collective spirit. For generations, the resilient and determined citizens of Eritrea have remained steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding our homeland. This sense of duty is not new; it is deeply rooted in our history and culture. Our dedication to protecting our airspace, territorial waters, and land is profound and non-negotiable, embodying the very essence of our unity as one heart, one nation moving forward together. In our quest for solidarity, we encourage our brothers and sisters in neighbouring regions such as Sudan, Somalia, Tigray, Amhara, Ogaden, Oromia, Gambella, Sidama, and Debub. We urge them to stay resilient in the face of adversity, as our struggles are interconnected. The fight for peace, stability, and justice in our respective areas matters not only to us but to all of Africa. We stand together, united in our purpose and resolve, ready to face challenges with courage and tenacity. #AfricaConnect #EmbassyMedia

The people of Eritrea have earned a strong reputation for extraordinary resilience and unwavering determination in the face of adversity. Recently, the Ethiopian government has begun to make aggressive manoeuvres that suggest a potential invasion of Eritrea. This renewed tension evokes memories of past conflicts and highlights the urgent need for vigilance among the Eritrean populace, who have historically fought hard to defend their sovereignty from external threats. Eritreans' resilience is rooted in shared hardship, unity, and the aspiration for self-determination, which continues to shape their response to modern challenges. Their motivations appear to be significantly driven by a desire for unfettered access to the strategically vital Red Sea. Compounding these concerns is the worrying trend of the Ethiopian government acting as a proxy for external interests, notably the United Arab Emirates. In response to these threats, the Eritrean people, backed by their steadfast government and heroic defence forces, are resolutely prepared to counter any acts of aggression from the Ethiopian regime. Their commitment to national defence is unwavering, reflecting a collective resolve to protect their territory and sovereignty. Additionally, the Eritrean diaspora—spread across the globe—remains united in supporting their homeland, more resilient than ever. This solidarity strengthens the national spirit, as people at home and abroad work together to uphold Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid renewed threats.

Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is these days accusing Eritrea for acts of "unprovoked aggression that may jeopardize regional peace and security". Audacity and duplicity in their most extreme forms! The indelible facts: 1. Ethiopia has in essence declared a war of aggression against Eritrea when its Prime Minister announced to his Parliament on 13 October 2023 that his regime will acquire "sovereign access to the sea, through negotiations if possible and by force if necessary". 2. As illustrated in the Press Release issued at the time (link below), Eritrea responded with exemplary restraint and equanimity to underline that it will not be provoked by these perplexing pronouncements and events. 3. In subsequent and repetitive campaigns to agitate and solicit support from his domestic constituencies to his war agenda, the PP's leader invoked "Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights" as a useful precedent for what he had in mind for Assab. 4. He went further to denigrate and deny Eritrea's independence by stating that "he could not find any legal documents in all Ethiopian Government archives - the Cabinet, Parliament etc. - in relation to Eritrea's independence". 5. His periodic and strident agitations included urging and reminding the Ethiopian Army that its core mission centered on "ensuring and maintaining the security of the Red Sea from the edge of Somalia to the Port of Massawa". 4. Taking their cue from the Potemkin Party's Chief, senior political and military officials dwelt on provocative statements on several public events; essentially to declare that they will correct the "historical mistake" and forcefully occupy the Eritrean port of Assab as well as its entire southern coastline to secure "strategic depth" to their phantom naval force. 5. And, on 27 September last month, the Ethiopian Army's Deputy Chief of Staff openly declared that "the offensive launched in Tigray will not stop there". He went on to state: "Mekelle is a mere stop-over, our ultimate destination is Assab; our main objective is to install our flag in the Red Sea". 6. The hysterical infatuation with the Red Sea must also be seen with previous intentions to wage a war of invasion against Eritrea but that were not publicly divulged at the time. Indeed, the PP regime did not only try to entice the TPLF to join forces for an invasion against Eritrea in confidential meetings in Djibouti and Seychelles during the Tigray War in early/mid 2022, but a confidential report issued by the EU Envoy after her visit to Ethiopia in September 2022 - a couple of months prior to the Pretoria Agreement - bluntly announced that the 2018 Peace Agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia had become "null and void". These were apparently sinister machinations to which Eritrea had no inkling at the time. In brief, the Ethiopian regime has been pursuing, in effect, an unprovoked war of aggression against Eritrea for more than three years now in flagrant breach of foundational principles of international law and the UN Charter that prohibit the threat or use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of another Member State. shabait.com/2023/10/16/press…
