Behaviour in schools is the single biggest barrier to learning. A few years back @ianwhite21 produced an excellent thread on reframing positive behaviour with 20 ways to help manage behaviour in the classroom. I did 4 one pagers to highlight how good these methodologies are. They are available for download from my shared drive.
Half term finally here. 8 weeks have been extraordinary tough for me. Taking on the responsibility for a new subject in it's entirety whilst having pastoral responsibilities has not been an easy ride. I have not read much, researched anything or drawn anything for such a long time. This changes today

AI useful in education or not? I have been using it for 18 months or so and whilst it saves time generating ideas, outlines and concepts for lesson narration, it fails on some big areas that are essential part of my daily workload. Digitally marking and assessing work is littered with mistakes and inaccurate responses. Slide deck creation is simplistic and lacking details, and email generation is easily identified as AI. In 4 months time this might have changed and my message will be different.

When a teacher gets it wrong in the classroom what do they do? They adapt and change course immediately. We all know learning is not linear, just like classroom pedagogy is not an exact science and does not follow an upward trajectory. Sometimes we have to reset and reteach the same content. Not because our teaching was ineffective but because the concepts were not embedded first time. You can have 25 weekly topics to get through, but not all those topics will take a week. Planning a curriculum model for a year in any subject is not easy.

Teaching is hard. Every day complex decisions have to be made to ensure learning continues. No two lessons are the same even if you are delivering the same content, in exactly the same way to classes of similar abilities. They each take their own pathway, and this is where the teacher has to orchestrate a unique set of actions that might not have been planned.
Sometimes it works and other times we come away reflecting on how we could do this better.
Welcome to teaching

Can I ask thoughts on laptops for teachers in classrooms and lecturns, what are people's thoughts, and is there any effective research to indicate their effectiveness in improving teaching pedagogy. @teacherhead @olicav @KateJones_teach @PepsMccrea @C_Hendrick
