A 26-year-old man, Kim Sung-woo, murdered his wifeโ€™s mother and kidnapped and confined his wife. Kim and his wife had been dating since April of last year. She told him in November of last year that she wanted to break up, and from then on, she suffered from his violence. Kim threatened her with a weapon, tied her hands and feet, raped her, strangled her, and beat her until she lost consciousness. He then forced her to complete a marriage registration form. Fearing his violence, she filled it out. She sought help from the police and filed a lawsuit to have the marriage declared invalid, but Kim went to find her, killed her mother, and kidnapped her. She said, โ€œMy mother was stabbed to death by Kim Sung-woo. To protect me, she did not avoid his knife and kept taking the blows. My mother was sacrificed because of me.โ€ naver.me/GfrGFssR naver.me/GSQqlPxu

Cho Doo-soon raped an 8-year-old girl. The girl lost more than 80% of the function of her genitals and anus, leaving her permanently disabled. Prosecutors sought life imprisonment for Cho Doo-soon, but the judge reduced the sentence because he had been drinking at the time of the crime, sentencing him to 12 years in prison. The judge was later named one of the โ€œOutstanding Judgesโ€ selected by the Seoul Bar Association in 2020, and he now works as a lawyer specializing in sex crime cases. He is known to promote cases in which he obtained suspended sentences for clients accused of sexual violence as โ€œsuccess stories,โ€ while charging high legal fees. naver.me/xEXICd2E

male students who raped a female student went on to enter university without facing any consequences. According to the victimโ€™s account, she was raped by the two male students in a music room for three hours. They assaulted her whenever she resisted and also filmed the rape. The police secured evidence, including the victimโ€™s statement, CCTV footage, and a video of the rape found on the perpetratorsโ€™ phones, and determined that the two male students were suspected of committing sex crimes. However, the school did not take any meaningful action until the perpetrators graduated. The school even refused her request to be separated from them. The perpetrators even reported her, claiming that they had been victims of school violence. Meanwhile, rumors blaming her spread among the students, and after being sexually assaulted, she was unable to attend classes properly. The perpetrators received no punishment and entered university without facing any consequences. naver.me/GbyMJpxL

A male police officer asked a woman who reported a sexual assault questions such as, โ€œWhy did he hit you? Was that some kind of sexual fantasy?โ€, โ€œDid any bodily fluids come out of you?โ€, and โ€œDidnโ€™t you arouse him?โ€ The officers also used vulgar slang for sexual intercourse, which could have caused her shame and humiliation. The woman had been beaten and then raped, but instead of asking about the assault and how many times it had occurred, the officer questioned her about sexual fantasies. One lawyer said, โ€œIt appears that the police were asking these questions to satisfy their own curiosity. If those questions had truly been necessary, they would have been included in the official statement.โ€ The perpetrator even admitted to the crime and apologized to the victim. Nevertheless, the police decided not to refer the case to the prosecution. naver.me/FbVLtxUH

A woman was raped by a store owner, but the police closed the case, after which she took her own life. In her suicide note, she pleaded with authorities to appeal the decision. After investigating the case, a news organization found several serious flaws in the investigation. The police did not carry out a single compulsory investigative measure. They failed to seize the CCTV recording or search the premises to secure the surveillance system, even though it could have provided crucial evidence. They also failed to seize and search the perpetratorโ€™s cell phone. In addition, they did not secure recordings or other evidence in which the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted, nor did they interview relevant witnesses. The police only reviewed CCTV footage that the perpetrator, who owned the store, had edited and provided himself. They did not even verify whether the footage was original or had been tampered with. When the victimโ€™s family protested, the police reportedly said, โ€œApplying to the prosecution for a warrant takes too long and is too much trouble.โ€ The prosecution later secured the CCTV system, the perpetratorโ€™s cell phone, and the audio recordings. However, by then, several months had passed since the victimโ€™s death, making it difficult to recover the CCTV footage. As a result, the investigation has made little progress. naver.me/5wrZONC3

A Telegram groupโ€™s notice stated, โ€œRemember: the moment you enter this group, your girlfriend becomes public property.โ€ When members uploaded photos of their girlfriends, others turned the images into deepfake pornography and distributed it. A 28-year-old man commissioned deepfake pornography using photos of his ex-girlfriend and threatened her with the resulting material. He also created deepfake pornography using photos of other women. To obtain their photos, he used a hacking app. His ex-girlfriend filed a police complaint against him, and the group disappeared after the investigation began. naver.me/GP2IxISe
