There is no Indian Equivalent standard released to IEC 60454-3-8, glass fiber tapes
The standards were last updated in India for adhesive line tapes in 1975 for IS 7809
The rooms where these are decided do seem like they have fewer engineers today than the past
If the government in India was serious about the switch to EV's, that subsidy for electric scooters would be much more aggressive, ICE Scooters in India still continue to consume between 50 and 70% of all Petrol in India.
The subsidy starts paying back in less than a decade.

There have been multiple attempts to break through and create indigenous tools:

Of all the things in Indian manufacturing, this feels like the easiest to solve with capital, the talent is available.
I do think it would be better to do this along the lines of Public Infra and just have it be free to everyone in the world to use.
There are very good open source solvers already available, waiting for good UI/UX to be created for them.

PPAP/APQP Software can be AI Enabled as well. The most boring part of launching a new product, but got to be done for high quality manufacturing.
Since it's mostly text/basic numbers, it should be automated and humans can be verification/checking.
for example: gndctl.com/
there are Indian companies who are doing this too: youtube.com/watch?v=uqdCVVmJ…
Everyone is trying to automate drawing creation in CAD using AI.
It's a hard problem because AI has never worked on the CNC machine that the part may be manufactured on.
It's much easier to automate creation of layout inspection reports and other Quality Documentation.
On a related side note, there is a large opportunity to innovate on crimping methods in wire harnessing to minimize cross section area of copper to reduce overall wiring mass in vehicles.
Copper continues being absolutely ruthless. Roughly up ~30% up this year.
Considering switching to aluminum for all of our low current application for wiring.
The engineer inside me doesn't like it, but we must do what Design for Cost asks us to.
good list
makes me think of the incredible engineers from the non-english speaking world we don't know about just because of the differences in languages.
here's the list of the five engineers who have shaped my thinking (and why) throughout the last decade:
1. ben krasnow
he's shown me that to be a great (not just good) engineer, you have to be multidisciplinary. you hamstring yourself by not understanding nearby disciplines
for example: he regularly goes into the nitty gritty of why motor selections are dictated by available voltage, current and architectural control as well as their impact on the mechanical design of the system
this percolates into his decision making for chemical engineering, sourcing and the everything of his projects. a masterclass in why generalists win over specialists in the long run
he also shows that sillymaxxing is part of good engineering (notable mention for andrew mccalip here). see his video on backscatter imaging of a chicken for more on this
boring sentimental note: the achievement i'm most proud of in my career is not any of the stuff on my resume, it's ben's following my open source hardware repo. this is one of the few true metrics engineers can live by -- is my thing useful to others?
In the vast majority of manufacturing shops across India, an under-investment in tools is very common.
It can be very difficult to find good multi-meters, oscilloscopes, probes and other stuff that are essential to get work done.
Budgeting for tools is better than an office.
The vast majority of advantages that can be had from shifting to BLDC can also be had with any AC motor technology + an inverter.
BLDC's are popular because it's easier to write the firmware for synchronous motors.
Hard relate.
OEM purchasers first question with authority “do you make BLDC mixer grinders.”
I used to say NO
Now I say YES, and quote them 30% BELOW cost
Immediate reaction:
“Kya sir, itna mehenga?!!”
I respond “Boss, BLDC mein kya advantage hein? Kyun chahiyein?”
Blank stare, a deer in headlights 🦌
Then “Theekh hai, chodo.
Jo sastay models hein, woh hi dikhao”
Every. Single. Time. 🤦🏾♂️
It’s just the “cool” buzzword to ask, makes one sound and feel fancy without any logical understanding of meaning or costs.
Hope the whole city of Bangalore gets one single city specification with this.

From footpaths to streets, shoulder drains to rajakaluves, bus stops and metro stations, junctions and flyovers, urban infrastructure needs better design.
If you are an urban designer or planner or a transport planner, here’s a great opportunity to work with the Government and make a difference!

A growing majority of Karnataka's land is used to grow agricultural produce which is not exactly "food".
Arecanut and Sugar.
Climate Change will just create an economic incentive to grow food on these lands in bad times.
A significant portion of the magnet suppliers from China that I am speaking to tell me that applying for licensing for magnets in India continues to remain more complex than other countries
India has added a few additional steps of approval, making the entire process slower here
