Failed crops, soaring fodder prices and empty reservoirs: Western Rajasthan faces a deepening water crisis. The region received 30% less monsoon rainfall than normal, while dams in the Jodhpur zone hold just 16% of their capacity. Farmers are struggling to sow crops, and herders are selling livestock at reduced prices. Read full analysis by @rajusajwan: downtoearth.org.in/climate-c… #Rajasthan #Drought #WaterScarcity

Impacts: Extreme heat threatens health & infrastructure. Water scarcity endangers crops & freshwater. Rising sea & floods threaten lives. Food insecurity risks crop yields. Wildfires & extreme damage ecosystems. Climate resilience requires integrated action. #ClimateJustice

Extreme #heat is not just about temp—it’s a growing health risk. #Europe’s reported heat-associated deaths are a warning for India. Heat risk depends on intensity, duration, humidity, exposure & vulnerability. India must strengthen heat monitoring, & impact-based early warnings.

Will crucial climate science arrive too late to inform global action? For the sixth time, countries have failed to agree on when the IPCC's next major reports should be published. Vulnerable nations warn that delays could leave the 2028 Global Stocktake without key scientific assessments, while India and others argue for more time to ensure scientific rigour. India's 178 major reservoirs lost nearly 3.5 billion cubic metres of water in just one week. Southern India's reservoirs are particularly stressed, holding just 42.34% of their capacity, compared with 89.35% a year ago. Several dams in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra's Marathwada region are below 30% capacity, explains @rajusajwan Read what the latest Central Water Commission data reveals: downtoearth.org.in/water/sev… #WaterScarcity #India #Reservoirs #WaterSecurity

IIT Roorkee Study Reveals Growing Convergence of Flood and Drought Vulnerabilities Across India A study led by researchers at IIT Roorkee reveals an increasing overlap in district-level vulnerability to floods and droughts, highlighting the need for integrated climate-risk planning and multi-hazard preparedness. Published in npj Natural Hazards, the study analysed 591 districts across India and found that, by 2011, more than one-fifth of districts were highly vulnerable to floods, nearly one-fifth to droughts, and more than one in ten fell towards the higher end of the Multi-Hazard Vulnerability Index (MHVI). Led by Prof. Mohit Prakash Mohanty, with researchers Priyanka Tripathy, Dev Anand Thakur and Vittal Hari, the study identifies growing multi-hazard hotspots, particularly across eastern and northern India. The findings underscore the importance of district-level assessments in strengthening climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction and resilient development. Supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) through ICARS at IIT Roorkee, the research advances evidence-based approaches to identifying vulnerable regions and prioritising climate resilience measures. #IITRoorkee #ClimateResilience #FloodRisk #DroughtRisk #DisasterRiskReduction #ClimateAdaptation #MultiHazardRisk #ResearchAndInnovation #SustainableDevelopment
