Eric Hoffer wrote this article about Israel almost 60 years go. It reads like it was written yesterday. "The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it, Turkey threw out a million Greeks, and Algeria a million Frenchmen. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese-and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world. Other nations when they are defeated survive and recover but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map, and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on. There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break of diplomatic relations with America because of what we do in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway. The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to America and the West in general. I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us."

How do you keep history from repeating itself? To start, you don’t keep doing the same thing over and over again and hope for different results. If you want the outcome to be different, you need to do something different. How many times in the last 78 years have Muslims shot rockets at Israel, attacked Israel, murdered Israelis, kidnapped Israelis and committed various other terrorist attacks against Israel and Israelis? What happens each time? Israel responds. Takes out rocket launchers. Sometimes enters Gaza. There’s a brief war. The international community calls on Israel to show restraint. Israel withdraws. The international community sends more money to Gaza, which gets used to prepare for the next attack. For 78 years. Rinse. Wash. Repeat. And now, people are mad at Israel’s response to Oct 7. They feel it’s “too much” and that Israel should leave Gaza. Some will agree that Israel has the right to defend herself, others will not. While some will agree that Oct 7 was one of the most barbaric massacres ever, they will claim the response is beyond defence. Guess what? Defending yourself doesn’t just mean stopping the immediate attack. It also means bringing back any of your people that were taken, and making sure the attackers aren’t able to attack you again. Israel has listened to the international community. Many times. Each time, the same thing happened and it’s resulted in more dead Israelis. More dead Jews. When does history repeat itself? When we don’t learn. When we keep doing the same things over and over. Do you know where else history is repeating itself right now? In just about every Western nation. The UK. The US. Canada. Australia. France. Germany. The list goes on and on. The explosion of antisemitism. The normalization of Jew hatred. Israel sees the cycle, and will ensure that the war that Hamas started will break the cycle by ensuring Hamas can never attack again. The rest of the world needs to see it as well. Because right now, they’re letting history repeat itself. And that, will destroy our civilization. #NeverAgainIsNow

Since 1948, the population of Jews in Muslim countries has gone from approximately 1,000,000 to around 30,000. Since 1948, the population of Muslims in Jewish countries has gone from about 156,000 to around 2,000,000. Who’s guilty of apartheid and ethnic cleansing?

CBC deliberately inverted the story They opened with: “Israel has closed off the West Bank after Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinians near Hebron.” The actual sequence—that two armed men from Hebron drove up, got out of the car, and opened fire on the checkpoint, triggering a 20-minute gun battle in which the attackers were killed—was buried nearly two and a half minutes in. Only then did viewers learn about the large quantity of weapons and ammunition, Israeli officials saying the pair were planning a major attack on civilians, and Hamas praising the “high-impact operation” while calling for more violence. BBC, CNN, The Washington Post, and The Times of Israel all led with the attack itself. CBC chose not to. This is not neutral sequencing. Leading with the Israeli response while delaying the fact that the dead men initiated a terrorist attack is a classic framing choice that makes the aggressors look like victims—days before Israel’s election @brodiefenlon

That's funny, it's illegitimate, but all these other countries that were not Muslim or Arabic are, right? And of course, all of these Jews will be given the right of return, with no dhimmi tax, and no persecution, right? And all of the lands of North America will be returned to Indigenous people, of course. You are the sole claimant to "Jewish values"? Who made you God and said you can dictate my values, or any other values? The #1 law of Judaism is survival. You are allowed to eat traif, drive on Shabat, whatever for the sake of maintaining life. If the gates of Gaza were opened, and I have friends there, so stfu, Hamas would come in with them and slaughter all 7,000,000 Jews, not to mention the 2,000,000 Israeli Palestinians who Hamas considers traitors. But that's ok right? Because Jewish values say we should walk peacefully into the gas chambers again.

You I'm sure, accidentally, left out the rest of Article ll "Article II of the Genocide Convention contains a narrow definition of the crime of genocide, which includes two main elements: A mental element: the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such"; The intent is the most difficult element to determine. To constitute genocide, there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, nor does an intention to simply disperse a group. It is this special intent, or dolus specialis, that makes the crime of genocide so unique. In addition, case law has associated intent with the existence of a State or organizational plan or policy, even if the definition of genocide in international law does not include that element. Importantly, the victims of genocide are deliberately targeted - not randomly – because of their real or perceived membership of one of the four groups protected under the Convention (which excludes political groups, for example). This means that the target of destruction must be the group, as such, and not its members as individuals. Genocide can also be committed against only a part of the group, as long as that part is identifiable (including within a geographically limited area) and “substantial.”

Nice try, too bad they had to change the definition just so they could accuse Israel of it, and then they still failed, even according to their own people.

Remember when the Free Palestine movement was shouting that the International Court of Justice found plausible evidence of genocide in Gaza? Then why are the President of the Court and the Chief Prosecutor saying there is no evidence? Could it be the same reason Free Palestine was shouting genocide libel even moments after the October 7 attacks? 🤔

And you know this how? What have you done for the Palestinian people? I protested Netanyahu and the settlements in the 90s, ran childrens' programs, and taught special ed. You? Tell me about all the good you've done, besides spreading hate that does absolutely nothing to help the Palestinian people. Israel has 2 million Palestinians living in Israel with full citizenship rights. There are supreme court justices who are Palestinian, lawyers, doctors, MPs. If they wanted to destroy a people, they would start there. The only intention is to destroy Hamas. I'm not anti-Palestinian, and I'm not pro Netanyahu. What does support Palestine mean to you? As someone who has been there, and worked in a program bringing Palestinian and Israeli children together, I know of what I speak. I have friends in Gaza, the west bank, and Israel. I have held Palestinian children in my arms, eaten in Gazan homes. You? Try imagining being her. Why are ten men dragging a girl into a field and then throwing her on the ground? xitter.cf/i/status/2054661660741… If you ask me whether I support the Palestinian people, I would say yes. If you asked me whether I support Israel, I would say yes. They're not mutually exclusive when you realize the real problem is the Jihadi movement, and Hamas in this case. They kill Gazans and Israelis. The Taliban oppresses Afghans, Hezbollah oppresses Lebanese Maronite Christians and Druze, Boko Haram kidnaps girls and turns them into sex slaves and slaughters Christians in Nigeria - and none have been "occupied" or "oppressed." Let's see. Jews can't enter Gaza or the West Bank or they'll be murdered. There are 2 million Palestinian Israeli citizens with full rights. So who has apartheid? In Arab countries, Jews are considered "Dhimmi" and have to pay a separate tax, so who has apartheid? Israel risked their lives and spent millions to rescue Ethiopian Jews, but In Gaza, the area where black Muslims live is called "Al Abeed", which means slave neighborhood, so who has apartheid? 70% of Israelis are people of color - tell me again about Apartheid. Gaza and the west bank have no Jews living there. Why? Because Hamas will slaughter them. So who is genocidal? Separate Hamas from the Palestinian people.
Amit Soussana: “I was kidnapped from my home by 7 Palestinian men and sexually assaulted in captivity.” NYT: “Rape Dogs.”

Genocide requires the intention to destroy an entire people. But I'm logical, and real. If Israel wanted to destroy Palestinians it would have been done before the world could blink. Why is it the world gets that the Taliban oppress Afghans, the IRGC oppress Iranians, but they don't get that Hamas oppresses Palestinians? xitter.cf/Tamer_Alnoaizy/status/… The ICC rejected warrants for the LOWER threshold "crime against humanity of extermination" at the lowest burden of proof. If you cannot get the lower standard crime at the lowest burden of proof, you cannot possibly get genocide, a higher threshold crime, at the highest standard of proof. Genocide requires the intention to destroy an entire people. Yet Israel, 1. Killed less than 2% 2. Has 2 million Palestinians living in Israel as citizens with full rights, and killed none of them. In all genocides, the first people killed are those within the territory - German Jews, Rwandan Tutsis, etc. 3. Paused to deliver polio vaccines - why bother if the intent is to kill them all? 4. Sent her own children in (the IDF are 17-20 yr olds, conscripted right after high school), risking their lives, rather than just bombing from the air and flattening Gaza 5. Hamas has admitted that 50,000 Hamas warriors were killed, so an army that could have committed genocide in 2 days killed less than 2% while chasing terrorists in a 3 year span. Enough with the BS.
One of the most horrifying and brutal scenes ever captured on camera in modern history. Israeli soldiers opened fire on thousands of starving Palestinians in Gaza as they ran in desperation trying to get a piece of food during the war on Gaza. A moment the world must never forget.

Why is it the world gets that the Taliban oppress Afghans, the IRGC oppress Iranians, but they don't get that Hamas oppresses Palestinians? xitter.cf/Tamer_Alnoaizy/status/… Israel is a tiny piece of land that can be driven across in 45 minutes. It's surrounded by 52 Arab countries, and has been invaded and attacked by multiple armies simultaneously and repeatedly since 1948. Rockets fly every night. Israeli children grow up being woken in the middle of the night and rushed to safe rooms. Israeli parents know their children's reward for graduating from high school will be two years of service in the IDF, where they will stand in a guard shack and have rocks and molotov cocktails thrown at them by kids their own age (17/18), and be condemned for arresting them or fighting back. The IDF ARE KIDS. They are younger than the Hamas fighters they face. They've grown up terrified and told never to go near Gaza or the WB and suddenly they're being sent in there after watching their friends and families slaughtered. Hamas straps bombs to women and children, so a 17 yr old IDF soldier who sees a woman or child walking towards them has to wonder if they are coming to blow themselves up. Even when their own hostages walked toward them they shot and killed them - they are traumatized kids.

A public intellectual like yourself should be able to consider more than one perspective... Imagine you're the leader of Israel Oct. 8th. Hamas swears they will repeat Oct. 7th 10,000 times. You know Hamas is the only army in the world that puts themselves in the bomb shelters and leaves the women and children above ground. They WANT you to kill them, so they can demonize you. They've convinced the population it's good to be "martyrs." Yaya Sinwar comes out and says he wants 100,000 Gazans to die so the world will hate Israel. You have a devil's choice. Do nothing, knowing they will come and rape and kill your women and children again, or go after them, knowing you will have to go through their women and children to get to them. So what do you do? You drop leaflets telling the civilians where you'll bomb and to move, because you want to destroy the tunnels and have to destroy the buildings above in order to do that, but don't want to kill the civilians. Except Hamas orders the residents to stay put, and shoots at them if they try to leave. My friend Sherif was killed because he was sneaking people out of bomb zones during the night>

Yes, don't bother me with facts, be silent. First of all, even if it was true that Israel committed a genocide, does that mean Turkey is innocent of slaughtering the Kurds? Second of all, Hamas own numbers say 70,000 people died. 70,000 / 2,500,000 = .028 % of the population, in 3 years. Is that tragic, yes. Is it a genocide? Ridiculous question. Meanwhile, 600,000 are dead in Tigray, China has murdered 100,000 Uyghurs, 500,000 are dead in Syria, 50,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria...shall I go on? Have you posted about them, even once?

You are citing a meme as history, with no knowledge to support it. I am a Canadian Jew, who worked in greenline programs bringing Palestinian and Israeli children together. I have friends of 30 years who live in Gaza and the West Bank, and friends of 50 years who live in Israel. I am an inclusive educator, who has worked to make our schools more equitable across ableism, racism, homophobia, and every form of discrimination. While we all carry unconscious bias, I can say I care deeply for both Israeli and Palestinian civilians, and I don’t like the leadership of either of them. It is true that there was an influx of Jews from Europe post the holocaust. From 1945-1948 holocaust survivors came to Israel seeking a safe place. The US and Canada had refused them entry, sending them back into the hands of the Nazis and the gas chambers. The Arab population, at the same time, were looking forward to the departure of the British and colonial rule. Unfortunately, instead of helping two persecuted people come together, the British divided them, and sowed fear. So the Arabs saw the Jews as the next colonizers, and the Jews saw the Arabs as the next Nazis. Neither trusted the other. Holocaust survivors were traumatized, starved, frightened people – they were not warriors or colonizers, that claim is despicable and offensive. Do they look like aggressors to you? In 1948, the British and UN divided what was British Palestine, which included what is now Jordan. Arabs were given 80% of the land, including Jordan, the west bank, and Gaza (Orange and Green). So the orange was Jordan, the green Egypt. Jews were given the tiny sliver in blue. They accepted that, and in 1948, declared the State of Israel. The Arab countries did not accept having a Jewish state. They then attacked the new state of Israel in 1948, coming with established armies from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, and lost. The same was true in 1967, and 1973. At that point, Israel decided they needed natural boundaries - so they pushed west to the Jordan river, South over the Sinai, and North over the Golan. This led to the “occupied territories” – Golan, Gaza, and the West Bank were taken in defense after multiple attacks. The idea being that for Arabs to invade, they would have to cross a river / desert / mountains. During this period, there are mixed stories about Arabs in Israel. According to some, Israel rounded up Arabs at that time and moved them all to Gaza and the west bank – this is what is referred to as the Naqba. Others say Arab peoples didn’t want to live under Jewish government, and so they left. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. There are 2 million Arabs who are citizens of Israel, and refer to themselves as Arab Israelis – they have full voting rights, sit on the supreme court, are MP’s in the government, etc. So obviously, they were not all forcibly removed. Some left because other Arab nations warned them of the coming attack on Jews, and promised them they could return after "victory". Some fled out of fear of a Jewish government / army / police. Some were forced out, because Jews feared them, sometimes legitimately, many times not. There was land illegally taken, and some Palestinian families have been fighting for the right to return to the land that was forcibly taken from them ever since. As well, during the British colonial rule, land that was owned by British or Foreign Arab families (ie they didn’t live on the land, but owned it and sharecropped it) was sold to Jewish immigrants. The land was bought legally by Jewish immigrants. However, for the Palestinian families who had been farming that land for generations, the sale to Jewish owners and eviction was traumatic and devastated a culture and a way of life. At the same time, Arab countries decided to expel their Jews, who had lived there for thousands of years. So there was an influx of Jews fleeing Morocco, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and others into the newly declared state of Israel, many of whom settled on what had been Arab lands, and Arabs settled in those other countries on what had been Jewish land. History is complex. It's not a simple meme. This is not a Disney movie with a good witch and a bad witch. Wrongs have been done in both directions.

I am not Jewish. But I am a proud Israeli citizen. I live in Tel Aviv. Despite the world having extremely opinionated views about the country I live in, few people I have come across on X (that don’t live here) know little of substance about Israel apart from their warped sense of history and reality. This is the first post of a series I will write entitled Everything You Think You Know About Israel is (Probably) Wrong. The points are not in any particular order. Spread the word. Most Israelis (just over 50%) are not white. The devastating impact on European Jews of the Holocaust meant that the newly formed Israel in 1948 was largely populated by Jews fleeing persecution in Muslim-ruled countries predominantly in the Middle East and North Africa. These are known as Mizrahi Jews and when the State of Israel was formed they made up 80% of the Jewish population living here. Jews have had a continuous presence in the land of Israel since around 1208 BCE, that’s 3,200 years — long before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The Muslim faith, in contrast, dates back 1,400 years (610 CE). Yes, when they lost majority rule in the 7th-century Muslim conquest they were not in the majority for centuries, but still lived in their ancestral homeland. Arab terrorism against Jews existed before 1948. In 1929, for example, 67 Jews were killed in the Hebron massacre, attacked and slaughtered by the Arabs they lived and worked beside. My wife’s great-grandfather Ben-Zion Gershon (who was a local doctor that often treated the Arab community without accepting payment) was tortured, had both his eyes gouged out and was then murdered. This was after his daughter Esther was raped in front of him, and his wife Zahava had both arms chopped off and was left to die. This was just one of many similar massacres inflicted on Jews that day. I will continue this series over the coming days.

We will all soon know what it feels like to be Jewish. In France, they already do. It will be our just deserts for having abandoned the Jews, ignored their warnings, turned against them, and even marched alongside their oppressors. For three years, you useful idiots have been parading Palestinian flags, sporting keffiyehs, screaming “From the River to the Sea”, and recognizing a fictitious Palestinian state as a reward for Hamas’s October 7 massacre (looking at you, @EmmanuelMacron). You have boycotted the only Jewish state in the world, vilified the Jewish people’s right to self-determination (aka “Zionism”), and spread the “Gaza genocide” blood libel. Did you really think that if you fed the crocodile enough Jewish flesh, it would eventually be satiated? All you have done is embolden the monster and whet its appetite. So you were worried about “colonization”? Look around. The only thing being colonized here are our own Western cities. The Palestinian flag has become a victory banner, proudly waved amid the ruins of looted and vandalized historic buildings—a symbol of hatred for our civilization and everything it stands for. It never ends with the Jews.
