There’s a funny shell game where video game modders and indie dev are obviously using AI for everything but know saying it will create a backlash so they pretend they’re not “Oh, the progress on our mod accelerated 500% this year because we uh really locked in”

Jon Stewart having Ed Zitron on as an "AI expert" really makes me question everything I learned about the world from the Daily Show when I was 13 years old

Its very clear who actually wants to improve conditions (Ezra Klein, Yglesias, etc) and who just wants to be liberal comfort food (Stewart, Oliver)
“Is this just a big circle jerk?” Jon welcomes Ed Zitron (@edzitron), host of the podcast Better Offline, to make sense of the financial house of cards propping up AI and big tech. New pod out now!

We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/

I don’t know, guys. If you don’t look at Arab politics and see fundamentally different rhetoric and strategies from 20 years ago, then you aren’t actually looking at Arab politics. You’re just reading Likud talking points about it. There’s a massive anti-Israel and anti-Zionist sentiment in the Arab street. Probably 60% of Arab political representation openly represents that sentiment. And also, there’s a powerful and growing demand to join coalitions, including with the right, to work with state institutions, to integrate into Israeli mainstream society, and so on. Arab political parties that leave aside their ideological uniqueness and unite in a demand for a seat at the table always improve turnout in the Arab street. Always. For eight elections in a row now, that rule has held. Raam has grown dramatically, specifically because it brought a Zionist Jew into its list as its crime czar and promised its voters to tackle real world problems by working *with* Israeli state institutions, instead of against them. It is entirely possible for the Arabs of Israel to both feel deeply Palestinian, deeply wary of Israel’s Jewishness, and deeply desiring of greater integration with their Jewish neighbors. Don’t let anyone make excuses for the many anti-Israel radicals in those lists. But also, it’s simply a lie to pretend that the new and growing desire to integrate isn’t happening. Welcome to real life, where two seemingly opposite things can be taking place at once.
Replying to @havivrettiggur
Arab voters want integration, which is why it's never reflected in anything they actually do and all the parties they actually vote for favor the Palestinian identity. The average Arab citizen regards himself as a Palestinian, however inconvenient that is for liberal Zionists.

The decision of @cayimby not to endorse prop 45 seems completely insane and backwards to me. CEQA reform is badly needed and this initiative actually doesn’t go far enough!!

she got absolutely mogged by the principal
🚨🚨UNREAL: Last night at the Woodland High School vs El Camino High School girls’ varsity volleyball game, the principal approached me to warm me that I was not allowed to film any “minors” unless I was related to the player. Why are they trying to hide the trans-identified boy? Girls’ sports are for girls only. Break the spell!!

Klein did not "defend genocide" at all much less for 3 years; did not go around attacking any pro-Palestine or Israel-critical voice. Because these are indefensible lies, people shift the scope of the claim to "Weeeell but I kind of feeeel like Ethan was hostile to Palestine?"
Replying to @irisembury
It has everything to do with what you said. You are claiming that Ethan was overall NOT hostile to pro-Palestine causes & that statements like Klein "spent 3 years defending genocide" & "attacking all of Israel's critics" are lies. Correct? Well, what I initially pointed out is exactly the sort of thing you'd expect to see from someone who IS hostile to pro-palestinian causes. Just like if someone claimed to be pro trans-rights or pro BLM and only spoke of folks like Blaire White or Candace Owens as supposed positive voices for those movements, you'd rightfully think that was a huge red flag & assume the person holding up BW & CO wasn't genuine at all about their advocacy.

The Mexican standoff in so many dorky fandoms and nerd communities right now with programmers obviously using AI but keeping it secret so they don’t piss off the huge contingents of non-technical fans who think AI is per se evil and pollutes all it touches
The DS Pokémon ROM hacking scene has become a feature race since AI took off. Everyone is rebuilding the same stuff on their own, rushing to be the first to post a clip of whatever concepts. Many also use AI in secret because of the community’s AI shaming. (1/2)

Re: "that ad is about Israel, not Jews": If there was an ad hammering on the idea that the reason you can't pay for your groceries is that we're spending too much on aid to Africa, I'm guessing few people left of center would have trouble seeing that as racist
