An American woman named Milora (29 years old) was sleeping inside her home in Los Angeles and woke up to a strange noise. She looked out the window and found a man trying to break into her house.
Milora realized the man was going to enter, so she escaped through a second-floor window onto the roof of the house. She took her phone to call the police and hid, terrified, below a protruding ledge. The terrifying part was that he followed her to the roof, searching for her with a tool in his hand—and that's when she snapped this photo, which went viral worldwide.
The police arrived and, with the help of firefighters, managed to get her down safely. The man, named Christian Hicks, was arrested.
But here's where things get strange and disturbing:
That same morning, police had stopped him after he broke into a backyard and then released him—after which he headed straight for Milora.
He was sentenced to three years in prison but was released, only to be arrested again in 2018 on charges of robbery and harassment, and sentenced to less than a year in jail. He was arrested in 2021 on kidnapping and rape charges, and finally, in 2023, he was sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Everything that happened was a massive failure and breakdown in the system and the judiciary. How does a dangerous person like this get given all these chances?

Danny Ellerd was so ill that jail refused to take him. He weighed just 92 pounds, and an infected hand was threatening his life.
In 2021, after years of addiction and homelessness, two bounty hunters found him on outstanding warrants.
He says his hand was so swollen from injecting drugs that they couldn’t handcuff him.
At the jail, a nurse insisted he needed a hospital instead.
Doctors saved his hand, and his life.
After treatment, Ellerd entered recovery through Hope Is Alive.
He later enrolled at Oklahoma State University, studying Computer Information Systems while working and managing a recovery home.
He graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
By October 2026, he reported five years of sobriety, two college degrees and a job helping people move out of homelessness.
He also wrote a book called Recovery Is Possible.

‼️Those wishing to leave the city will have the opportunity to do so until 2:00 p.m. All necessary security measures will be put in place.
Humanitarian aid distribution is scheduled to begin after 2:30 p.m.

A federal judge rejected the DOJ's emergency request to block California from counting mail ballots linked to more than 20,000 alleged noncitizen voters, ruling the move would "wreak havoc" on an election already underway.
U.S. District Judge David Carter said the government's bid would "discount the votes of United States citizens" and create a "chilling effect on election workers and voters alike." More than 3.7 million people have already voted in the state, and Los Angeles County officials testified it would be impossible to trace which ballot belonged to which voter at this point.
The DOJ immediately appealed to the 9th Circuit. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli fired back, saying the ruling allows an "ongoing emergency" that "disenfranchises American citizens through dilution" — and vowed to seek an emergency order from the appeals court.
