I will not support Ron DeSantis as President even after I voted for him twice - he doesn't really care about what voters want if it conflicts with what he wants. Examples of DeSantis overriding or opposing Florida voters: • Felon voting rights: 65% voted to restore them. He signed additional restrictions. • Key West: Voters approved cruise ship limits. He signed a law overriding them. • Elected prosecutors: Removed officials chosen by voters. • Abortion rights: 57% supported Amendment 4. He opposed it and used state resources to fight it. • Marijuana: A majority voted for legalization. He opposed it. • Citizen initiatives: Signed laws making it harder to get amendments on the ballot. The pattern raises questions about whose decisions ultimately govern Florida and reflect on how he would govern as President. Elected officials are to respect the will of voters even if they disagree.

This will backfire immensely. Look at NC.
🚨 I call on Gov. Abbott to IMMEDIATELY convene a special session to REIN IN EXECUTIVE EMERGENCY POWERS… before Gina Hinojosa is sworn in! Republicans lost last night, but Democrats were not sworn in. We still have total power in Texas, and we must act like it by using the remaining ten weeks to restore separation of powers and limit the emergency powers that Governor-Elect Hinojosa is set to inherit, which would allow her to destroy liberty in Texas by executive fiat. I’ve warned since I was first elected that NO governor, Republican or Democrat, should have unchecked emergency powers! Now that Texas has elected a Democrat Governor, the urgency is undeniable… and inaction is intolerable. Without action, Governor Hinojosa will inherit the powers of a DICTATOR. Due to the absurd (and almost certainly unconstitutional) Texas emergency powers laws, Gov. Hinojosa will literally have the power to modify laws, ignore laws, or create and enforce laws – including criminal laws – on a whim! Today is a day for ACTION, and bold leadership. The Texas Legislature must immediately pass, and Governor Abbott must sign, legislation like HB911, which I filed in 2022 and warned at the time, that “Never ending emergency powers are antithetical to representative government and render people powerless. Legislative bodies allowing a single executive branch official to both write and enforce laws is the biggest threat to our constitutional system of divided government and should be opposed irrespective of which political party runs the executive branch.” My legislation would protect liberty from executive fiat by, among other things, taking the following actions: 1. Prohibit the Governor from suspending or modifying statutes 2. Sunset emergency orders in 30 days if the legislature does not ratify the order 3. Prohibit the governor from reissuing emergency orders that expired or the legislature rejected 4. Require emergency orders to be narrowly tailored 5. Subject emergency orders to expedited judicial review We have TEN WEEKS LEFT to protect Texas from near total Democrat rule. I encourage every elected Republican in Texas to join my demand for Gov. Abbott to call a special session. The future of liberty in America is literally on the line in Texas, and Texans deserve leadership that acts accordingly. @GregAbbott_TX

Very interesting to see how this turns out.
Montana voters approved a ballot measure to ban corporations, nonprofits and labor unions from doing business in the state if they made political contributions. State's rights v. Citizens United. Will be fun to see SCOTUS deal with that one. Bravo Montana!!!

.@JamesTalarico: We didn’t win by alienating our neighbors, or by shaming our neighbors, or by ridiculing our neighbors. We embodied a new kind of politics. A politics rooted in a deep love — for our state, for our country, and for all of our neighbors. My faith teaches me that love is the strongest force in the universe. Love is not passive. Love is not neutral. Love is not weak. Love requires that we stand between the bullies and the bullied. Love requires that we look evil in the eye and not blink. Love can heal what’s broken in America.

This is exactly me. Party loyalty be damned as it has made zero difference for the better. I’m voting entirely on candidate quality.
In 2016, I watched in real time as Republicans around me argued character could no longer be king in our voting process. They said our demands for respectability politics were making us weak, causing us to lose. We’ve now lived through a decade of characterless candidates. Republicans may have won more races during this time period, but they’ve lost everything that mattered in the process. Nothing has changed for the better, not a single facet of our lives has improved. The country has become meaner, more divided, more isolated, and less secure. Our economy has been pillaged. Our political systems have been weakened. The only thing we have more of is corruption and crassness. In a two party system, we're lucky if we get integrity on even one side of the ballot. For me, that's now the guiding principle in how I vote. Because a person who has already proven to be a liar and a thug is likely lying to you about their policies anyways.

Why hasn’t he been more vocal about this earlier????
Governor DeSantis BLASTS Kristi Noem for bungling mass deportations and turning it into a shit show for her own glory. DeSantis BLASTS Congressmen like Byron Donalds for making millions on the stock market. DeSantis BLASTS Alina Habba for getting a $10 million government contract and securing a presidential pardon for her boyfriend. “If the people in office don't display some civic virtue about public service as a sacrifice. It's not to use the public office for private gain. I declined the pension in Congress. I declined the health care. I didn't trade the stocks. And I believe in congressional term limits. I mean, imagine if you went to the American people and actually tried to get that done. That's not right or left. That's something that a lot of people realize.. These guys work for themselves. They should be working for you.”

I know one thing, Democrats aren’t going to be focused on a ballroom, a golf course, a reflecting pool or a new arch when the American people are struggling. If they do they deserve to burn.
I don’t understand how people think Trump was supposed to just flip a switch to fix 4 years of Dem destruction to our country. Voting Dem will never solve anything, they stand for nothing, only against Trump…

Closing messages from Republicans today: 1. Please, we beg you, give us more time. 2. Look at this reflecting pool photo. 3. We are bad, but Dems are worse! 4. We know you’re struggling, but have you considered transgender athletes? 5. The economy is great. Stop complaining. 6. Everything is Biden’s fault. 7. Please ignore the corruption. 8. The polls are fake unless we’re winning. Inspiring stuff!

How about everyone (Christians and Muslims included) keep their rules and restrictions to themselves and not project them into politics and laws that force other people to live how they want them to.
Actually, those Christians have been recommending what you should do. If you lived in a Muslim country, they'd be telling you what you can do, and also you wouldn't be tweeting about it.

America held elections for centuries. Then…a lifelong con artist lost one, screamed RIGGED, and millions of people decided democracy was broken instead of considering that the asshole simply LOST.

Buttigieg: This isn't happening because of Covid. The gas prices aren't happening because Putin started a war. Gas prices are happening because Donald Trump started a war. Mortgage rates are over 7% because the Trump administration decided to give away $1 trillion in tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest people in the country, blew up the deficit while doing so.  It's not even that they tried and failed to lower costs. It's that their choices have actively, directly increased costs. And as you can tell from the president's performance today, they don't care.

This “mean tweets” line of argument are among the most facile. To say that Trump’s actions haven’t been extreme is to say that naked corruption, an illegal war, lying about an election and then trying to overturn the results, and then pardoning the violent protestors who sacked the capitol, weaponizing the DOJ, siding with dictators over democracies, putting masked agents on the streets who have shot Americans, that none of that is extreme behavior. Which is a genuinely insane position. And obviously that’s just scratching the surface off the top of my head.
"Trump said extreme things, therefore we get to DO extreme things" -- the D position for the rest of time.

If any of my followers are Democrats, I imagine you'll have a good night tomorrow, but be prepared for me to be as critical of you as I am of Republicans when they controlled Congress (or the White House) If you are the party in power, you really own the bad and the good. I hope you understand I will be an objective critic, but if you think I only disliked Republican controlled government, well, you are mistaken. Buckle up Donkeys!
