An all-liquid diet of nutrients isn't ready yet for #ulcerativcolitis remission induction
But in adults with active ulcerative colitis:
✅It's well-tolerated
✅It shows low discontinuation
✅It improves serum albumin levels

Intestinal ultrasound assessment of faecal loading in #IBD (?and #IBS) is an accurate tool to diagnose and support patient education to improve symptoms. Well done @Mathiar86, great presentation to close off #AGW24!
Advanced Gastroenterology Research Dietitian @Alice_APD presents her fascinating research on the 4-Sure Diet - “4-strategies-to-SUlfide-REduction” - a novel diet for the management of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis #AGW24 @RobVBryant @bresch23 #UC #IBD

A new and important study by @DrTomGoodsall @RobVBryant @ChrisMa_YYC and many great colleagues from 🇦🇺 & 🌎 on #intestinalultrasound and reliability, cghjournal.org/article/S1542… in @AGA_CGH. I am delighted for the collaboration and to be involved as an IBUS @BowelUltrasound #centralreader.
"Conclusions: Local and central reading of IUS demonstrated at least moderate inter- and intra-rater reliability for several parameters. This study supports refining existing activity indices and incorporating IUS central reading into clinical trials."
🔑 takeaways and updates since the study was conducted:
Interpretation of images is challenging in #IUS but also in other imaging modalities like #MRI.
📝"Inter-rater reliability estimates reported in the current study are similar to or greater than those observed when MRE features were evaluated in small bowel CD."
📝"Variability in inter-reliability estimates is most likely due to heterogeneous scoring conventions, parameter definitions, and training programs [...] We found that reliability was highest when BWS and i-fat were scored as absent/present. Conversely, assessing CDS using the 4-category modified Limberg Score yielded higher reliability estimates compared to a binary system."
🚀ACTION
✅@BowelUltrasound is currently working on standardizing training programs, and in a recent study by @GormRoager, parameter definitions were thoroughly discussed for optimizing scoring conventions => pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3902…
@BowelUltrasound is also working on a new prospectively defined score and testing it for reliability and responsibility.

Laura Portman and @Alice_APD highlight the importance of dietitian led verbal and written education in helping patients achieve dietary changes for their ulcerative colitis. Research was present at @D_ECCO_IBD earlier this year!

Why adherence to dietary therapy matters in IBD?
💡@Alice_APD: Dietitian-led comprehensive written and verbal dietary education is better than generalized written advice for achieving dietary changes in adults with UC
Congratulations to Sam @sam_dietitian, Ryan @Mathiar86 & team - finalists in @CentralAdlLHN World Class Care awards for establishing a multi-D functional clinic that delivers world class personalised care with high levels of patient satisfaction
