The UK economy basically works like this: Get paid £2,000. Give £900 to a landlord. Give £200 to the council. Give £150 to energy companies. Give £300 to supermarkets. Give £300 to car insurance and fuel. Spend the rest surviving until next payday. Then get lectured by someone who bought their house for £37,000 in 1988 about how you need to stop buying coffees and cancel subscriptions.

“For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life… for me, it was Tuesday.” M. Bison’s speech in Street Fighter (1994) is absurdly iconic, it somehow becomes the most memorable thing in the whole film.
What's a great scene in an otherwise bad or forgettable movie?

I'm not saying education has no effect on VI, but people will look at data like this without realising that we more than tripled the percentage of the population that went or university in the Blair era, so this just shows that Reform voters age older
Not sharing the most recent poster as don’t want to contribute to a pile on. But every few weeks someone posts this graph or similar as “evidence” a reform voters are stupid and it’s not just wrong/offensive but also deeply incurious. Some thoughts: On the “wrong/offensive” firstly this is partly just an age effect, mass HE benefits younger people. Secondly degree status clearly doesn’t equal intelligence. But also the idea that Reform voters (and you hear the same about Green voters) haven’t applied rationale thinking to their choice is just nonsense. Many have concluded entirely understandably that the status quo isn’t working and that there is a need to try something new. But secondly the incurious bit strikes me. It’s far easier to write off a voter you disagree with, whether Reform, Green or anything else as stupid/victims of misinformation. But if you’re interested in trying to win people back surely you’re interested in why they’re abandoning the mainstream rather than just dismissing them as wrong . As someone who has the opportunity to spend time every week talking to Reform, Green and many other voters it is clear the primary driver is the sense of a broken social contract, life which feels too much “surviving not living” and disrespect from political class. You can have a very legitimate debate about whether Reform or Green solutions will address that vs established mainstream. Insulting voters intelligence, naivety or rationality isn’t that.

Joanna is politer than I am going to be. For the Justice Secretary - a former barrister - to suggest that being wrongly accused of a crime and imprisoned for three years is just like “scraping your knee”, should be a resignation matter. @DavidLammy owes the public an apology.
Your local friendly criminal barrister here! 👋 I need you to know that anything up to a three year prison sentence imposed without a jury trial is really not the same thing as scraping your knee without seeing a consultant.

It took just one phone call from Donald Trump for Starmer to jump into yet another Middle East illegal war, failing to learn the lessons of the tragedies of Iraq, Libya and Syria.
BREAKING: Keir Starmer has given US permission to use UK bases at RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia to launch “defensive” airstrikes against Iran - and destroy its missiles “at source” to prevent them firing across region. PM: “Our partners in the Gulf have asked us to do more to defend them… And it’s my duty to protect British lives. “We have British jets in the air as part of coordinated defensive operations which have already successfully intercepted Iranian strikes. “But the only way to stop the threat is to destroy the missiles at source - in their storage depots or the launchers which are used to fire the missiles. “The US has requested permission to use British bases for that specific and limited defensive purpose. “We have taken the decision to accept this request to prevent Iran firing missiles across the region - killing innocent civilians, putting British lives at risk and hitting countries that have not been involved.”

The most likely scenario here is incredibly funny: They literally couldn’t spell “France”. A semi-literate intern Googled “Franks Map”, got frustrated and just went with the most plausible looking image result. No one above them was smart enough to realize anything was wrong.
The NBA oddly chose a map of France that corresponds to the old Capetian realm. Why does the NBA reject French annexation of Burgundy? Are they disputing the outcome of the Battle of Nancy? Will the NBA pledge loyalty to the Valois dukes?

What's so notable about this clip is that this is primetime kids tv and it's a 5 minute scene of talk free, effects free, distraction free construction of a piece of art to a classical music soundtrack. This is what kids TV was. It's like viewing a lost world.
