Exactly 🤝🤝🤝
Hepatology’s simplest equation: 1. 🍺 Alcohol-associated liver disease is the main killer. 2. 📈 Abstinence improves survival. Yet addiction training is missing from the curriculum. Addiction medicine must be core training. Lives depend on it.

Met-ALD and ALD are way more prevalent than you expect. Check this Out 🔥🔥🙌🏻
In our @AGA_CGH study of 2,870 people screened for MASH trials, 11% had PEth ≥20 ng/mL—warranting evaluation for possible MetALD or ALD. Better alcohol assessment could improve trial selection and interpretation. authors.elsevier.com/c/1ntqg… #MASH #MetALD #ALD

Excited to share our new publication in Addiction on the prognostic impact of prior alcohol use disorder in MASLD. This is a scenario we see often in clinical practice where patients meeting MASLD criteria also have a remote history of alcohol dependence. In our large database study, 1 in 20 patients with presumed MASLD had a prior AUD diagnosis without receiving any subsequent ALD diagnosis. This group showed significantly higher rates of liver events and mortality. This may reflect the biological sequelae of past alcohol exposure and/or the high AUD relapse rates that go uncaptured during brief, snapshot clinic assessments. So whenever we see "MASLD with remote history of AUD", this should be a flag for closer monitoring, not a diagnosis to file away as resolved. @vinayjaha @LuisAntonioDiaz @juanpabloarab onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

How does history of AUD shape outcomes in pts with MASLD? In our multicenter cohort, prior AUD 🍷 was associated with ⬆️ hazards of cirrhosis, decompensation.
