Hunting with hounds is not a noble traditional sport it’s a hugely cruel activity for foxes and the poor hunting hounds. It needs to be consigned to the history books

Thinking about whales having their hearing damaged by sonar and animals being forced to flee the only homes they’ve ever known. War doesn’t just destroy human lives, it scars oceans, poisons rivers, destroys forests, and displaces entire ecosystems. War is violence against nature, too.

The legendary broadcaster shared that Britain's cat population has been estimated to kill around 55 million birds each year as they roam outside. 😞🐱 While he certainly didn't vilify cats, Attenborough suggested a way we can ensure our beloved felines cause as little damage as possible to garden birds. The solution couldn't be simpler or more glaringly obvious - pop a bell on their collar. He says this could reduce cats' "hunting success by a third". 🔔🐦 Another handy tip to stop cats from hunting unsuspecting birds is to bring them indoors during critical times, such as dusk and dawn, when birds are at their most active. These periods also overlap with the optimal hunting time for cats. 🌙🎯 One additional highly recommended, expert-endorsed step is to place bird feeders substantially higher up, well beyond the reach of prowling pets - and at least two metres away from dense vegetation. 🌱 #cats #nature #wildlife

This week 20,000 pigs burned to death in a factory farm fire in Ontario. They haven't let photographers inside. But here's what another pig factory farm looked like after it burned. It's hard to imagine the suffering of these intelligent, sensitive animals — trapped, without any means of escape or hope of help, as the flames engulfed them. It's harder to imagine the greed of an industry too cheap to even install sprinkler systems.
It stuns me that we let farmers confine 20K sentient pigs inside a single factory farm—just imagine their terror at burning alive inside a miserable warehouse. Please take a look at your food choices and consider opting out of this system. cbc.ca/news/canada/london/ho…

RIP 60 bulls in Pamplona 💔 The San Fermín festival in Pamplona comes to an end with this tragic outcome. For eight days, six bulls were forced to run each morning through narrow streets packed with screaming crowds and terrified spectators chasing them from behind. At the end of the day, these bulls were killed. Breeders of bulls and cows for the running of the bulls and bullfights of Pamplona, receive European agricultural funding. Please help us to stop the subsidies! Sign our petition: cas-international.org/petiti… #Pamplona #runningofthebulls #bullrun #sanfermin Picture: CAS International

Saddened to see the “anyone but England” attitude of some of my fellow Scots today. And as someone with a genuine affinity with Croatia, having briefly considered holidaying there in 1987, I find it a little patronising to myself and my Croatian amigos on our big day. 🇭🇷

Hello, I’m a bat. I don’t drink blood, and I’m not trying to get tangled in your hair. If I accidentally fly into your home, please don’t strike me with sticks or brooms—it hurts, and I’m already frightened. I never meant to scare you. If I land, I might not be able to take off again without your help. Gently use a towel to guide me outside, and I’ll fly away at once. I help by eating mosquitoes and many other insects. But our roosts are disappearing as forests and old buildings are torn down, leaving us with fewer places to live. So if one of us enters your house, just switch off the lights inside, turn on a light outside, and open a door. I’ll find my way out quickly. Please show kindness—I want to live too. Bats are nature's silent heroes—let's protect them together. Share this and spread the word.

Since I became disabled I have been shocked at the state of accessible toilets in the UK. So many of them are absolutely disgusting. Nothing makes you feel less welcome as a disabled person than having to use neglected toilets, with sanitary bins overflowing with human waste. I’m often forced to take my waste with me, carrying it round in a rucksack and disposing of it at home. It’s heartbreaking and it happens a lot. Sadly, it’s very common. Venues across the UK simply don’t respect customers with disabilities and expect us to go to the toilet in repulsive surroundings. That’s why it’s such a treat when you go somewhere with an accessible loo that’s properly looked after. The Hyndland Rock in Glasgow has the best accessible toilet of any pub I’ve been in. It’s immaculate, smells fresh and even has a framed print on the wall. Art! In a disabled toilet! I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to find a toilet like this. It’s a massive relief and it makes me feel less sad about my situation. I’m an optimistic chap but when I’m catheterising myself or emptying my colostomy bag in a foul room full of flies, it doesn’t make me feel good about my life. So if you have a venue, please look after your accessible toilets. The basics are the most important thing: empty the bins and keep the room clean and free of junk. Those simple things really mean a lot to people like me. They’re not on X so I can’t tag them, but thank you to all the staff at The Hyndland Rock!

In the dark of winter, evergreen holly was believed to offer protection, not only against witches and wandering spirits, but against lightning itself 👻🌩️ In Scandinavia it was long observed that holly seemed untouched by lightning strikes, giving rise to the belief that it stood under the protection of Thor himself⚡ And while one need not dismiss the idea of divine guardianship, holly’s spiky leaves may also act as tiny conductors, helping to channel electrical energy safely from the air down into the earth 🍒❄️ This belief was not the sole preserve of the Norse and in Ireland and Britain too, holly planted around the home was thought to guard against lightning...and the devastating fires it so often brought with it 🔥

The Israelis have murdered Al Jazeera’s Anas al-Sharif. The fucking bastards. I’m sorry but I’m enraged. They’d been threatening this for a while. Anas was so courageous and brought a special emotion and depth to his reports. He was our eyes. And that’s why they killed him.
