If the claim is that a “smaller benefit for moderates” is that the most leftwing candidates are “only 6 points worse”than the most moderate set, what are we even arguing about? That’s enormous
I was really annoyed at the debate about what empirical measure to use for ideology so I coded a lil script to use a LLM judge candidate ideology with pairwise comparisons and then put everyone on a single L-R scale (after Patrick Wu's work). Results are here. Judge for yourself Generally, in the Senate, we are seeing a smaller benefit for moderates than the predictions made by the centrist crowd during the 2025 vintage of this debate. And in the House, DSA candidates are running better than the average Democrat!!

Another fun stat: Three governors are Jews named Josh.
Here's a crazy stat: Jewish Democrats won five governors' races on Tuesday (PA, OH, CO, IL, HI), and they account for 23% of all Democratic governors ... for a minority that makes up less than 2% of the population, which is pretty impressive There are also 10 Jewish Democratic senators. Talk about punching above our weight.

Across the country so much news happened in one night, today is every political reporters hell. Goodluck! The campaigns rest, the reporters are cracking their 3 Red Bull of the morning. Haha

Does no one remember the Palisades being closed? We had the National Guard guarding the entrances! Nithya Raman - like almost every other elected official - didn’t visit because authorities asked them not to.
Nithya Ramen didn’t show up to the Palisades until a campaign stop in May 2026. She has no plan other than appointing a “Czar” - who I imagine will be the worst person possible. She will make the burned out town into her vision of “equity.” How sad is it that I trust this woman less. No more commies.

Padilla is an anti-housing politician who bragged to me about getting an affordable housing project reduced from 6 stories to 3 stories. She also said that broken street lights allow her constituents to better see the stars. And worth saying: no one has been more vindictive and petty ever since Nithya had the audacity to challenge Bass for mayor, and by extension, all the council members who decided to eat shit and pretend Bass is doing a bang up job. Which explains why this "endorsement" is so warmed over. Oh the mayor is reachable by phone? Awesome. The city is falling apart.
Take it from Councilwoman Imelda Padilla, Los Angeles needs a mayor who is willing to work with every City Councilmember to deliver lasting results for Angelenos. I’m committed to working together with our city leaders and constituents to keep moving Los Angeles forward and ensure our city is ready for the 2028 Olympics! Make your plan to vote now and get your ballot in on or before Election Day on November 3rd!

I like the idea that opposing ULA and thus almost every labor union and nonprofit in LA is the politically expedient position.
There’s an argument that Nithya Raman deserves credit for changing her mind when the facts change. For example, she changed her mind a few months ago about ULA, stating it should be reformed to exempt new construction. Ok cool. Not buying it. I don’t trust her judgment. I don’t trust her ability to anticipate second-order effects. I don’t trust that she won’t put the interests of the DSA ahead of sound policy. I don’t trust that she’s not just changing her mind out of political convenience to get votes because her original positions were so stupid. And I’m not convinced she understands that making housing easier to build while making it equally harder to own and operate is *not* a coherent pro-housing position. Changing your mind when the facts change is good, yes. But that doesn’t absolve you of responsibility for failing to anticipate the (very very obvious!) consequences of your policies in the first place. So, the question isn’t just whether Raman has changed her positions. It’s whether she understood the consequences of her original policies, and whether her proposed policies *actually* address them. Anyone but her.

It’s not surprising that landlord Twitter is supporting Karen Bass. NIMBYism and scarcity help support the value of their apartment buildings.

So I went down the rabbit hole of trying to determine what are the economics for someone, who is currently healthy , to go to a HDHP with a 10k plus deductible. The question I asked is “I dont trust insurance companies. What happens if I have a million dollar emergency and they won’t pay “. All I can say is WTF If they don’t pay, there are Independent Review Organizations, who are supposed to be independent, and their decision to pay or not is final. I asked for examples of companies. One was ExamWorks. That rang a bell. These motherfuckers are the same company that issued a ridiculous denial for a patient I was trying to help. So I knew the Too Big To Care, vertically integrated insurance companies hired them to do DENIALS !!! WTF. The biggest customers of the companies that are the final decision makers for insurance carrier denials, are the biggest insurance companies. That is beyond fucked up. It’s the definition of conflict of interest. How do state insurance commissioners allow this ? The high deductible plans that many people say is the solution to fixing how we do insurance, may be effectively compromised If you are looking at a HDHP, BE CAREFUL It might just be rigged against you

Compare and contrast with the very popular Beethoven Market in Mar Vista getting their liquor license revoked because a tiny handful of neighbors decided to file a barrage of complaints.
Leaving the Hollywood bowl, a guy set up a full bar on Highland. Seeing what we put legitimate businesses through trying to get a liquor license, it blows my mind that there’s no enforcement against this.

On Friday, Karen Bass warned about a hurricane hitting LA. We joked that she will now leave town. And she actually did?? Can someone please confirm. This just can’t be real.
Is LA Mayor, Karen Bass in Pittsburgh right now? This photo was sent to me from someone who spotted her on Mt. Washington in the city of Pittsburgh. I looked online and it does say she traveled out of state this weekend. The person who took the photo said the man with her was security who told her "not to look left" as her photo was being taken. I'm intrigued. If this is LA mayor Bass , I wonder what brings her to #Pennsylvania?

This is a great article. Basically, Karen Bass can’t accept bribes directly but she can ask you to donate to non-profits or other special causes which then go to work on her behalf. Cool! 🙃
NEW: Since taking office, Karen Bass has solicited more than $38M to charities from corporations, unions, other foundations & wealthy backers, including $2M from Lineage after the Boyle Heights fire. There’s obviously a group of Democratic voting Jews in Michigan who will never vote for El-Sayed but there’s almost certainly a larger group that wants to get to yes and El-Sayed is doing what he can to reach them
