Ukrainian veteran and documentary filmmaker Helena Maksyom, on stage in Berlin, where her feature about her years as a soldier on the front line received a standing ovation at the closing of the Ukrainian Film Festival. Both screenings in Berlin played to a full house. It was moving to be there and feel that reaction from the room, and to meet the people who hold up the Ukrainian support community in the city. They are selfless and dedicated. Some have put themselves in real danger to get aid to the units they stand behind. A special thank you to my new friend @mi_stad for the conversations and the ideas. The festival put our fundraiser on the screens and shared the QR code with the audience, and the people in that room answered with real generosity. Thanks to them we pushed well past where we were when I arrived in Berlin. The film is coming to select German cinemas soon and will be on ZDF early next year. More coming soon. Right now Starlink speed is still capped at 160 Kph in Ukraine by either the US govermnet or Elon Musk. In Berlin now, and I've realized something. Though Germany is full of russians and the filth they spread, German supporters of Ukraine are extraordinary human beings doing heroic work in the fight for freedom. Just one of them does more good in the world than 1,000 people who are simply "tired of the war."
