Compelled speech is the antithesis of academic freedom. If you are concerned please show your support and sign our statement, below.
Academics at a London university are being made to take a test they can only pass by professing the “correct” opinions.
Compelled speech is a hallmark of authoritarianism and must always be resisted.

Student Unions are openly declaring their dislike of freedom of speech. In response to the creation of a @reformparty_uk society, here is York SU encouraging students to write to their MP to help change the law so that student unions do not have to uphold free speech.
And of course, they turned comments off on the post.

Students shouldn't pay full fees for a constrained education. If universities and the arts are pressured to limit critical debate, academic freedom is diminished, and so is the value of the degree.

If you work in Higher Education, or are a graduate, please sign this. Academic freedom of speech, to debate and question a variety of views is integral to high-quality education. We don't want generations of students who are scared to think outside the box or to question.

A narrow window of acceptable views is a step towards establishing an orthodoxy in academia.

For @thetimes Weekend Essay, @dfkodsi and I have written about the warping effects of academia's widespread indulgence of woke theorising -- taking in the efforts to sound the alarm on the part of @Docstockk, @byrne_a, @aytchellesse, @jdoyleDoyle1. Many of academia's political moderates have shirked their responsibility to enforce standards, perhaps thinking naively that various bad, intellectually and socially destructive, theories could be quarantined to their various subdisciplines without triggering a wider collapse in standards. They, we argue, were wrong.

This is the kind of nonsense students are facing in the States and here at home in the UK. Being forced to use or not use language because it's pushing "heteronormativity" 🙄
