Let me just say that I'm glad I got out of the classroom when I did. And no, this was not my former district.

As much as we want and need parent engagement, it can easily go overboard. See: Texas. #edchat

For me, forming relationships with parents is important, but I feel that fostering a positive rapport with their child is top priority in getting their engagement. Kids don't hold back in talking about their teachers, especially if it's something negative. #edchat

It is important not to mistake the demands of the job for your real work in the classroom. Show up for the kids in ways the system can’t measure. That’s where your agency lives. Where your work matters most. #EdChat

We had this discussion earlier on my campus. New teacher incentive pay will be tied to teachers who do things outside of their contract hours further blurring what is expected of educators in our profession. #edchat

Tonight's #edchat topic: If districts continue to demand more and more of teachers, what can teachers do to establish boundaries around extra assignments that help them sustain their work?

Cultivating student autonomy should be at the forefront when designing classroom routines. This creates buy-in and agency to strengthen adherence to routines. #EdChat
