Slowly, then all at once
Elon Musk in new interview with Walter Isaacson on the wealth he's created: "A fundamental misunderstanding of economics arises because of conflating resource allocation and consumption; I've created. My so-called wealth is simply a percentage ownership in SpaceX and Tesla. And this is going to be taxed quite heavily, and there's not some magical way to avoid taxes. If there were I would know about it. At the end of the day, this will get whittled down, and a few generations from now, if money still matters, which I don't think it will, my descendants would have a tiny fraction of what I have."

I’ve realized, Every time an idea passes from one set of hands to another, it changes. Sometimes it becomes sharper. Sometimes you lose the very thing that made it worth making. The ‘Why Zero’ website passed through many hands. @whossanjay , @VengadaS65199 , @Rasheemhamsa , @Aksh_a1 , @byroydesign and I shaped its story & visual narrative together. The idea was designed to remain unfiltered, to be slightly unreasonable and polarizing. Then, at a crucial point, it reached @sindhur_dutta . What happened after that is better heard from him. The website has now received 20+ awards, but the awards are probably the least interesting part of its story. Tune in to know how many people had to care deeply, in their own language, without flattening the idea as it travelled. This podcast allowed me to hear that story from the other side of the table. I went in knowing how we designed @zero_university . I came out understanding a world of creative development that is every bit as fascinating. If you have ever wondered how Zero became the experience it did, this is a good place to start. Thank you for having me. Swaraj Attaching link below

Almost a year ago, I asked some very rational people to back what looked like a very irrational idea. They were trying to protect a young company’s time, money, and survival. I was trying to protect its chance to become unmistakable. Both were forms of care, just aimed at different risks. Their questions were fair: Where has this worked before in this category? What assured outcome can we predict? My answer was uncomfortable: nowhere & none. That was precisely the point. Rationality is powerful because it learns from past patterns and makes outcomes more predictable. But what happens when you’re trying to create something the past has no evidence for? Especially when you’re creating for humans, the most unpredictable creatures of all. What we feel, think, say, and do never follows a straight line. But again If rationality alone could solve for the world, most of our hardest problems would already be solved. @zero_university is reconnecting education and employment, two worlds that were always meant to be one pipeline. The founders had spent a decade seeing that fracture up close. We weren’t simply entering a category; we were trying to create one. You cannot borrow the clothes of every successful tech company (the rational brains love cursor, claude, openai), stand beside them, and ask the world to believe you are different. So I made an almost irrational promise: trust me with an unpredictable path, and I will bring back a result we can all recognize. There was no precedent to hide behind. When a predictable idea fails, people question the execution and let you try again. When an unpredictable one fails, they question your judgment. Sometimes, they question you, your reputation becomes the collateral. In this case not everyone agreed. But they committed anyway (Signs of a great team btw). That may be the most beautiful part of this story. Agreement often arrives after proof, trust is what people give you before it. Somewhere between their caution and my team’s conviction, we built the ‘Why Zero’ website. Two weeks into the launch, it has received more than 18 awards/nominations/recognitions (& counting). I’m grateful but the signal I care about most is that the work makes people choose. Most of’em love it. Few don’t. But No one leave indifferent. & Indifference in this era is failure. Because polarization isn’t about provocation. It’s what happens when a piece of work has a point of view strong enough to make you locate your own. We’re aren’t stopping anytime soon. ———— PS: we’re growing the team, link in the comments

Built this interaction for @zero_university , and it's one of those small details that makes a big difference. The direction from @pixelandpump was: when someone sends a voice note, it gets converted into a transcript, analyzed, and then the right feedback is generated. That takes a few seconds. Instead of showing a loading state, we wanted those few seconds to feel engaging. It's the same principle as the mirrors inside elevators. The wait doesn't get any shorter, but it feels shorter because there's something engaging to focus on. @Aksh_a1 and @whossanjay came up with the style frames and UI, and I got to bring them to life in Rive by building the interaction from scratch. The best part? Building it in Rive was only half the story. With Claude, I could wire up the data bindings and contribute directly to the product implementation, all without writing code. Thinking of making another video showing the Rive → Claude implementation workflow 👀 @rive_app

Here's a breakdown of the animation reference we created for @zero_university waiting list website. It was a creative reference film we built to explore the visual direction before development started. We went through a lot of ideas, references, and iterations before landing on this concept. From the beginning, the goal was simple: don't think about development constraints first. Push the visuals as far as we could, then refine and adapt them into something that could work for the website. I had the chance to bring this sequence to life alongside an incredibly talented team. Looking back, it's still one of my favorite collaborations. This was before AI became a core part of our workflow, so every frame came from conversations, experimentation, and a lot of craft. It was pure collaboration between creative minds, and I still love the energy this project carries.

The green hand is one of the main subjects in this whole narrative. You could even call it the antagonist. Not just a antagonist though. We wanted it to carry a sense of authority. Power.

Some of them were beautiful. But this whole thing is being built in Three.js, and every extra element is a cost. Draw calls. Load time. I played a lot with the style sketching it out in 2D first, then texturing the model in Procreate.

Back and forth with Vengada Sabareesan, who was implementing it in Blender, figuring out what actually worked on the other side. Sometimes the strongest version of an idea is the one that survives the constraints. #threejs #blender #3ddesign #webgl #creativecoding

Draw a Zero and Jump right in. That's the door. We've been sitting on this one for a while and it's finally live. Draw the Zero, follow where it takes you, and don't leave early, We got a surprise for you in the end.
