Richard Osman, I believe, has commented on the psychological impact of everyone mentioning how tall he is all the time. Every time another surgeon finds out I'm left handed it's like I have to explain/excuse myself. Some even openly call me defective (or similar).
I've occasionally wondered whether having (a) "left-handed tray(s)" of common surgical instruments that can be easily accessed and reprocessed would be an easy win? They could even be a different colour for easy identification when you have a lefty operating with a righty.

We couldn’t be prouder of our superstar ColoSpeed administrator Nathania Bestwick who not only graduated with an MSc in Research @UniofNewcastle today but was also awarded ‘best dissertation’ in her cohort. Congratulations Nat @STSFTrust @SBRFoundation
Finally made it! But so far still to go 😬 I've benefitted from much patience and wisdom in my trainers, and some dogged persistence from me. I'm sure this is where the learning goes up a notch. #colonoscopy @JAG_Endoscopy
Getting certification would have been so much harder if I'd not been OOPR. Colonoscopy is a #colorectalsurgery CCT requirement so it needs to be adequately prioritised. Immersion is good but not enough on its own.
If you want a good way to do it, then come do world-leading GI research (and endoscopy training) with @BottProf, @LauraJNeilson and the @colospeedstudy and @RI_STSFT team at @STSFTrust. Hands down the best career move I've made (they even didn't mind that I am a surgeon 😷!).
